Racoons and garbage cans outside....
For the past two weeks, a racoon has been getting into my garbage- he/she must like my cooking. I have double bagged things, put the lid with locking handles on the garbage can, etc. Any advice? This racoon must love my garbage- at first we were laughing about it, but now it is becoming a nuisance- it did not like my pasta salad LOL , it was not fun to clean that one up on the lawn. Any advice on what to do? We even have a motion light , but it does not seem to stop this racoon. I love animals- I would not want anything to happen to it. HELP!

We had that happen to us last week, they were so loud I thought someone was trying to break in! DH put duct tape over the top and they couldn't get in and I think they got the hint, they haven't been back since.

Re: Racoons and garbage cans outside....
This happened to us 2 years ago - we started putting bungy cords over the covers. It's a PITA to open and close but the racoons gave up after trying a few times. They never came back.
This year we got tired of the bungy and went to a HUGE can on wheels that has a flip top. I have no idea how big it is, but it holds a lot of bags. They haven't bothered that either. Not sure if it angers the garbage man though since it's probably very heavy.

Bungy cords.
Even with the cords my DH discovered one of the cans overturned last week with holes about an inch long by about a 1/4 inch wide scratched onto the cover. Apparently, one of the racoons was pi$$ed and did his/her best to get into the can.
BTW: We keep the cans on the opposite side of the house from our bedroom by the garage. The bedroom above the garage was my DC's nursery. When they were newborns I was up doing a middle of the night feeding and heard what I thought was a man or two trying to break into my house/garage. I was but feeding 2 babies at the same time... I swear a gang was outside. Turns out it was the racoons
