Afraid of IVF

Hi ladies,

I just went to the IVF class at my RE today because if I'm not pg this cycle, that's the plan for next. I can't believe how nervous/scared I am. The class was very informative and I feel like I'm in good hands, but I'm still so scared. I can't even pinpoint what it is that I'm so afraid of, but my heart has been pounding.

Not sure what the point of this post was, just trying to get rid of these butterflies I guess. Thanks for listening!

I can honestly say it's not that big of a deal. A big STEP? Yes! But in the end, the process is totally doable.

have you done a bunch of injectable cycles? if you have, its not ALL that much different, just more intense. and of course the ER which some people fear more than others. if you are ok with minor medical procedures you'll be fine. its really not as big of a deal as i thought it would be beforehand. the anticipation and the waiting are the worst parts. good luck!

The ER is what I am most nervous about!

TOTALLY normal. I was TERRIFIED of IVF, and terrified of IUIs b/c of injectables... but worse w/ IVF. I can honestly say that w/o this board I NEVER would've gone thru w/ it. SO many ppl just did it... because it needed to be done and my mantra was if they can do it so can I-- b/c I want this just as badly as they do. There are tons of amazing ppl on here who will literally walk you though it, myself included! If you have any questions, want tips on stuff, etc... just reach out!

I was just like you.....soooo scared of IVF. I was terrified of being able to administer the shots, etc. And I know it seems like you received a lot of info but trust me after the 2nd day you will be a pro!! I thought there was NO way I would get the hang of it....but I did. And very quickly too! Best of luck to you!!!

It was not NEARLY as bad as I thought it would be!!! Actually, I thought it was pretty easy.. the PIO shots were the only thing that was hard and I hated. Good Luck!! I got my beautiful DD from my first IVF!

I understand your feelings. I'm about to start IVF (I've never done injectibles) and am scared too. Good to know there are women you can ask questions to on here that have been there!

I am in the same boat. We have been trying for almost a year and I always knew we would need to do IVF due to issues with DH's sperm - even though I hoped we would luck out and get a miracle. We had to put off IVF because we were waiting on open enrollment. And of course, this is the year everyone and their mother has gotten pregnant...

Now we have switched insurance companies and I am getting a referral from my ObGyn so we can get started. With that said, I am so scared. I am scared of how the drugs will affect me - short term and long term. I am afraid of the injections and the suppositories. I am afraid of the ER. I am afraid that we will get pregnant and I am afraid that we will not get pregnant (if that makes any sense at all). I am scared of how this will affect our relationship, my relationships with other people, my job. In the end, I know I will be able to find strength to get through this once we get the ball rolling, but for now I am scared. I am Type A and this is too unpredictable for me.

So trust me - you are not alone.
