Re: those that announced your pg way early...

We told everyone as soon as we saw the heartbeat (around 6.5 weeks the first time and around 7.5 weeks the second time). Once you see the heartbeat, the chance of miscarriage drops to 3%, which is as low as it gets for the whole pregnancy! We didn't want to tell anyone before that, because in the unfortunate event of a miscarriage, we didn't want the added pain of disappointing others who had been excited for us. We agreed we would tell our families if we suffered a loss, after the fact, for support, but couldn't handle letting anyone down after getting them excited. I do not regret at all telling people so early!

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

i am just over 5 weeks now, and we are waiting to tell our families for about 2 more weeks.
by then, even though it will still be early, i will have had my 1st appt and sono, and can show them the picture Chat Icon
it is sooo hard to talk to my mom and sister as much as i do, and not say anything!
a decent amount of my coworkers already know, bc w/my job, you have to tell them when you are pregnant.
a couple of my close friends who knew we were trying, know as well, bc i HAD to tell someone. i am a motormouth! lol
i will be devestated if something happened and i had to explain it to everyone... mostly at work, it would bother me to answer questions etc but i didn't really have a choice in telling... immediate family or close friends, i think i would want/need their support anyway, god forbid i had to go through that.

I tried for a long time and we got pregnant using IUI... All of my close friends and family knew when to expect "news" so I was kinda stuck with telling a bunch of people right away. I was ok with that because these were the people who stood by me in my darkest times of our journey. However, my DH kind of pushed us to share with the rest of our family and friends very early (9 weeks) and I was uncomfortable with it. Telling them was exciting, but I have to say that when I was alone with my thoughts after, I was very upset we told so early. I was worried that our "secret" was now outside of our close trusted group and if something bad happened I would have to deal with a lot more people than I felt comfortable. Honestly, i would consider waiting, as hard as it is, unless you can share the news with your close family without it getting around to EVERYONE.

Just my opinion! Good luck with everything!! xoxo

After my miscarriage I asked two doctors about the heartbeat % because I was under the impression that the miscarriage rate drops if there is a heartbeat (because it's in my pregnancy books). We saw a heartbeat 3 weeks before I was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage. Both doctors told me that seeing a heartbeat early on means nothing. At that point it's still too early to tell.

Thanks everyone for your stories.. well I couldn't keep my mouth shut so only a handful of people now know and my mom, I've decided to wait till I at least go to my first dr appt at 9 weeks and hear the heartbeat before telling everyone.. I think this is worse than the 2ww.

I had an abnormal ultrascreen. I was happy I only told close family. I regretted telling my MIL and FIL (they did not understand why they could not tell cousins... and it was not a possibility to explain to them the medical details of what the baby would be LIKE).

I can't imagine discussing having a termination with a whole lot of people.

Luckily, everything was OK.

Re: those that announced your pg way early...

I announced right away and my main concern was if I m/c that I would have to tell everyone. But then I realized that if it happened, I would need their support anyways so it all works out. Im 10w3d and I'm feeling better about it each day.Chat Icon

ETA: I just "came out" for the rest of the world on FB this week.
