Chicken Thight turning 5 days before the "use by" date
I bought boneless chicken thighs Sunday, it'a has a "use by" date of July 4th, Monday. Yesterday i noticed the smell of turning chicken in my fridge, this morning it's worse, the only chicken in there are those boneless thighs, i grabbed the packaged and smelled it, it's def them but there are still 4 days left to use them! They have been in the fridge since Sunday when i bought them, what should i do? Toss them (they weren't cheap), call the store?

I would try returning them.
I generally will only keep meat in my fridge for a max of 2 days. If I don't plan on using it by then it goes straight into the freezer.

According to the USDA, fresh uncooked chicken should only be stored in consumer's refrigerators for 1-2 days.
I don't know if there are different food storage guidelines are different for stores. I think the package was possibly mismarked. I would call to express concerns but I wouldn't expect to get my money back.

Hannafird actually has a double your money back guarantee, i buy chicken there all the time and keep it in the refrigerator and sometimes don't use it until the day before the use by date and never had a problem. I called the store and they said to bring it back.

That's great. I never heard of that store or chicken staying fresh that long in the fridge.

I actually didn't know that you should leave it in the fridge more than 1-2 days, i get the organic chicken and have always kept it for like 5 days in the fridge and never had a problem. I live in Maine so it's either Hannaford or Shaw's here and Shaw's is $$.

It could have gone off due to improper handling in the store - i.e. another customer decided not to purchase that pack of chicken and it sat at a register for a few hours before being put back in the fridge.
