Re: sports fanatics...when is the soonest you'll take LO
DH and I were just talking about this at dinner tonight. I was saying how I didn't think I'd be able to go to any Rangers games this year, but if I did I'd love to bring the baby. He told me he didn't think it would be a good idea so bring the baby so young, since neither one of us would be able to enjoy it! I was kind of bummed! I was hoping to bring the baby by at least a year old to some sort of sporting event!

Re: sports fanatics...when is the soonest you'll take LO
My DH is a sports fanatic (I am not) but is not comfortable bringing our baby to a game until they are older.
But I would take my son to a Mets game as a toddler, for one we live close by and also Citifield is like a park and even has a huge section for kids with a tee ball area and everything.
To a Jets game? DH says not until he is older. He feels it is too loud, rough etc. I have only ever been to a preseason game so I have not a clue

Re: sports fanatics...when is the soonest you'll take LO
see we have season tickets for islanders games...it kills me to miss out on the season. the older people who sit next to us asked when we would bring the baby and proceeded to tell us that they brought their children between 5-6 months!! i don't mind taking the baby in a carrier and putting the noise cancelling headphones on and just letting him watch the game...but my worry is if he cries has a fit i may need to leave and sit in the car

We have Rangers season tickets and we sold about the first half of the season. We intend on taking the baby around 5/6 months old which will be around February/March (depending on weather, flu season, and what kind of a baby we have). I don't mind walking around with the baby if she is not happy and I know dh, if it's too overwhelming, we will leave without any issue.

Re: sports fanatics...when is the soonest you'll take LO
we had DS1 at Citifield at 5 wks old Someone gave us great seats for free - we only stayed about 5 innings.
We sat in a very quiet section and I had him in the babybjorn on my chest the whole time. he was SO good and I'm glad we did it. I brought a backpack for formula/diapers/changing gear. I changed him in the car before we went in and changed again him as soon as we left and he was fine. He slept most of the time, but he was awake long enough for some adorable pics. We got some real smiles out of him! And I'll always remember the outfit he had on was 6-9mos size-- it was a gift and the only weather appropriate mets outfit we had. LOL
eta: he's almost 2 and has been to 5 or 6 games already.

This makes me feel better. I was on the hunt for Yankee tickets last night for a game next month and DD will be about 8-9 wks when we go. I figure she'll be so young and sleep most of the time. Glad to see it can work out!

Re: sports fanatics...when is the soonest you'll take LO
DS is 14 months old, and we haven't taken him to an event yet. We have Rangers season tickets, but DH won't take DS until he's older, like at least 3. My parents just watch him when we go. The same rule will apply for this baby.
I think that baseball games are totally different then hockey & football games. It's more relaxed and not as rowdy. We would take DS to a baseball game before the others, we just don't go to many baseball games. Also, DS would never want to sit to watch the game, so I think it would be pointless to go anyway. We would barely see the game.

Re: sports fanatics...when is the soonest you'll take LO
My DH is a huge Mets fan and we took DD#1 to a game when she was about 8 months. She was actually really good. I think it was actually easier to take her when she was young as opposed to now when she is 3.5 and doesn't want to sit for a second.

i am not sure when I would take them.....but this question just reminded me that we were at a Mets game once and this couple had a baby so young I swear it seemed like they left the hospital with the baby and came right to the game. the baby seemed way too young, but it was very well behaved!

Re: sports fanatics...when is the soonest you'll take LO
I am debating this as well.
DH is from Massachusetts and we are BIG Red Sox fans ( sorry NY). We will be making a trip up there when DS is only 8 weeks old and really really want to catch a Sox game.
We are weighing our options but we can always leave him home with the family if need be.

This will be us! LoL... only since my baby is due till November 21, it will be around playoff time when we would bring the baby... so they better make the playoffs!

our friends brought their baby to a baseball game when she was 4 months old. she was in the bjorn and behaved AMAZINGLY. No noise cancelling headphones or anything like that... babies should get used to noise. I don't think it's a big deal to bring them when they are little. I guess if they haven't had shots yet etc. just make sure other people keep their grubby hands away from them.

Mel, the younger the better! You just put them in a Bjorn or something and they sleep most of the time Once they get to the age when they can move around it's harder to contain them We took DS to a Yankee game at 8 months and he fell asleep in the Bjorn (right before it got rained out )

it's FINE - plus i feel like it's part of the reason DS can now sleep through a bomb going off 5 ft from his bed.
I was dying to get out of the house and do things again and he adapted so well. Again, we had him out and about constantly and now we're lucky to have a very social, easily-adaptable toddler.

Re: sports fanatics...when is the soonest you'll take LO
We took DS#1 to a Jets game (we have season tickets) when he was 3.5 - he made it one quarter. We specifically pick games that won't be rowdy (never to a Jets-Patriots game) and it won't kill DH if he has to leave early.
#2 will be going to a preseason game this year at 4...#1 will go to a regular game.
I don't think DD will ever go...LOL
