Taxes... how long after you moved...?

How long after you moved did you apply for STAR? I moved to nassau county in April and havent filled anything out yet.
Also, if you greived your taxes how long do you have to live in the house before you do it?
TIA

I would say fill out your STAR application as soon as you can. We did it like a week after we moved into our house. It needed to be done by the end of March for the county we live in (not Nassau County).

As for grieving our taxes, we moved into our house in November 2009. We did not actually realize our taxes were way too high until it was too late in 2010. The deadline is in May for my town. This year, we contacted our old REA and he ran comps for us in the area and we also had documentation for the price we paid for our house. We just found out we were approved and our taxes will be going. Chat Icon

Nassau County will only accept STAR applications closer to the deadline (12/31 of each year). I would apply on or about 12/1.

You don't need to live in your house for a specific length of time before grieving your taxes BUT you need to file at specific filing deadlines throughout the year. If you did not file a grievance in January of 2011 for the 2012/13 tax year, you must wait until next January of 2012 to file for the 2013/14 tax year.
