STAR
I got something in the mail about something i had to file regarding the STAR deduction. I can't find it and I have no clue what it was. I remember it said something HAD to be filed. What should I do????? Does anyone know what i am talking about? it came a couple of weeks ago.

We applied for the STAR exemption, the form we needed I was able to download it from the town website. (mine happens to be the town of babylon)

fill fom out and bring it to your local town hall. appicationis are due like march or june (i forget) for the follwoing year...(so if you fill this out now, it won't start till fall of 07 or new year 2008 - i hear different stories on when it takes effect)

My form said it must be filled out and received by January 1st, 2007 to be applicable for the 2008 year! This is Town of Hempstead, Nassau County.

it can vary by the township so you are probally correct...

I filled mine out in december of last year and it was due the beginning on January 06...It is finally going to start the star deduction in October 06...Cannot wait to save $100 a month

I am town of North Hempstead also - did you get something in the mail in the past couple of months?

if the previous owners had star, it should roll over to you for the remainder of the year. for the follwoing year, i recevied a new form via mail and had to submit by march 1.

I am town of North Hempstead also - did you get something in the mail in the past couple of months?
I am Town of Hempstead - not North Hempstead - and I did get something in the mail. I think the two towns are different - sorry!

MrsMadness - I misread your post! Sorry about that! Well I guess i will just download the forms online and hope that covers whatever i got in the mail. I do remember thinking i had some time to fill it out - so the Jan 1 deadline seems right.

Wait I thought the star just transfers over to the new home owner... this is what we were told when we went to look at a house.. does anyone know?
With our co-op we had to file and than a year later got the money off.. is it the same with a house?

i think that mine did transfer from last year (we just bought in April) but i think what i got in the mail was the application for next year....
Dont worry about hijacking - i do it all the time!
