Question for those in Bayside

Are there any buildings, co-ops, condos, townhouses ANYTHING, that has access to a small backyard or anything.. a patch of grass even! Just some private outdoor space with the living space..

Any other general feedback on living in Bayside? pros, cons...

Bay Terrace Gardens have duplex co-ops that have a patio out back, not too private though since the co-ops are kind of narrow. Some of the duplexes are higher up in the back, so there is a stair to go outside. The step out ones are bettter.
There are the condo townhouses on Corporal Kennedy - can't remember the name of them.
Baybridge condos - the groundfloor units have a small yard in the back.

I'm in the Gardens, not in a duplex though. I have the second floor unit, and I have two garden beds out front.
If I want to bbq, I can do so in the back behind the building. Never out front. I have a garden bench outside, and sit thre when the evenings are nice. There are also benches in the front of the courtyard.

I like Bayside, it's not too far from the city, yet far enough that it's not the city.
I can take the LIRR, express bus or local bus/subway to work.
Two great parks along the waterfront.
Bell Blvd and all it's restaurants, bars.

Cons - it seems crowded at times. Difficult to find parking on the street.
We have Waldbaums and a so-so KeyFood in Whitestone to shop in. No other good supermarkets.
Express bus takes long to get home at night - sometimes up to two hours.

That's about it.
I've been in Bayside for 13 years.

I agree with above poster. Also worth looking into is Whitestone. Clearview Gardens (garden apts with outdoor courtyards and space), Cryder Point (building with lush beautiful grounds), LeHarve (nice buildings in nice area)

My DH lived here
Windsor Oaks
for two or three years. I loved it there!

His place was a two-bedroom (he had a roommate) on the ground floor. It also had an eat-in kitchen and a nice size living room. There was a big courtyard in the middle; it was nice to hang out on the stoop on a warm night and, as I recall, there were also some benches. At the time (10 years ago) there was a really nice mix of people too. Also, it was on Springfield directly across from Alley Pond Park. Parking was a problem maybe like twice in that whole time.

It's off the beaten track in Bayside...I think it's in that section called Oakland Gardens or right around there. There were two local supermarkets: one on 73rd, the other on Springfield. There was a local diner, Jewish deli, bakery, Subway, Carvel, pizzeria etc etc.

Sometimes I wish we were still there...much easier to maintain than our house!

"Bayside Mews" 1st floor units have small backyard, but not sure if you can BBQ or not.

Thanks Girls, gonna show the links and info to Dh.. We have been having trouble pin pointing an area and after going out to LI and seeing tons of places I miss the areas that have a lot of "stuff" I grew up in Queens and am used to just walking outside and things, shopping,, stores r right there! Maybe bayside could work for us :)

I lived in a co-op in Bayside that had a small patio area but you shared it with the neighbors and there was no grass, only cement. We were able to bbq back there and have a little table and chairs set up. It was called Peartree Gardens and it was a small complex but I think they may have changed their name since then.

Love LeHarve in Whitestone. Great open floor concept. Lots & lots of grass with beautifully maintained common areas, some with water views. In my opinion,very reasonable for what you get. Although there are a lot of buildings, theres something very peaceful about the area.

I'm in Whitestone and agree with Cryder Point. I live up the block from here.

The buildings inside the development are on the water with a gorgeous view of the Throggs Neck Bridge.

The apartments are a nice size as well - with nice balconies (they are in the process of re-doing all of them).

The gardens are beautiful. The streets are tree lined.

The Express bus to the city stops right in front as well as the local bus to Main Street for the 7 train.

Baybridge Condos are another option. They are very $$$ - you could buy an entire house on LI for what a 2 bedroom goes for in there ($500,000)

Depending on where you are, the schools in Bayside are some of the best in the city school system - particularly Cardozo HS. It's pretty competitive.

I lived in Hollis Court which is across the street from Windsor (link in another post). It's right across the street from Cunningham Park so it felt very non-city. Also has big courtyards. A lot of families in the complex. I LOVED it there.

I looked into almost every coop/condo in the flushing, bayside, whitestone area.

Peartree in bayside was the best if you could get a lower corner unit--you would have your own private side entrance, the use of the side yard area for bbq etc. Some ppl even fence it in. They also supply you with garage and 1 parking space. Great location.

Next best was Bell Park Manor Terrace. They have duplexes, some with yard space with an awning or a deck. They also allow you to refinish your basement space which i dont think any other coop I saw allowed. They are small and not in my favorite area of bayside, but worth checking out.

The other coops-- Windsor Oaks, Clearview Gardens, Bayterrace all had that open garden courtyard space in front...but nothing private.

College Point has Condos -- Silverpointe and Riverview both have some with fenced in yards. Could get $$ put the taxes are very low.

I also grew up in queens and didnt wnt to leave... but after looking at all these options decided to move on the floral park/franklin square border. It isnt really far from bayside...maybe 15 minutes, and you get a lot more for your $$$.

I lived/rented in Bayside for about 5 years. My first place was a two family home and I had access to the back and front yard both with lawns, driveway, walking distance to the train and the stores/restaurants on Bell Blvd. It was a great place for my 20's. I lived in a second place that was also a two family style home. This place I had a big balcony and access to the yard. I also was a few blocks from the train, driveway etc. I loved living there. I felt like I was close to LI and to NYC...best of both worlds. I found both apts on craigslist and this was probably in 1999 and the second place in 2002. I had great landlords, neighbors, no fees and no rent raises all the years that I lived in these places. I liked living in the two family homes because it was a lot less formal and after the first year lease I was able to go month to month until I was ready to leave.
