Are all brands created equal?

Thanks. I'll have to see if we have that brand out here in CO.

I would go for something imported from Italy.

Extra Virgin is going to have the most olivey taste and is very healthy for you - great for all kinds of cooking.

The light olive oil will have much lighter taste and is good for dressings, cakes, baked items, etc, when you don't want the taste of olive oil.

I like Trader Joe's Kalmata oil - it has a nice rich flavor.

Re: Olive Oil

What are you using it for?

If you're using for dressings or not to cook with, I suggest a very dark (green) extra virgin, like Trader Joe's Sicilian. It has a fruity taste, I love to use it for dipping.

If it's for cooking, such as frying, you want to stay away from extra virgin because it burns off too quickly. Anywhere from Italy, Spain or Greece should be good.

No Trader Joe's out here (crazy since we are the crunchiest place on earth).
We have Whole Foods though.

I didn't know the difference for using the light and the other. Thanks so much for the info!!! I'll get both kinds.

Re: Olive Oil

Our new favorite normal-priced extra virgin is Colavita's frutatto extra virgin. It's extremely similar to oil DH's family makes in Croatia, which we love but can't normally get.

Re: Olive Oil

I like the Fairway olive oils. I don't think they are all the same. Same with balsamic vinegar.
