Actually, white vinegar mixed with cold water is an old family trick I swear by. White vinegar is a degreaser and the cold water rinse helps make your hair shiny. Just rinse REALLY well so you don't smell like salad dressing

I do the same. AND an added bonus if you work with kids, it's also a lice deterrant.

Really? It is? I had no idea and I do work with kids. Extra bonus! What I like about the vinegar too is that it's earth friendly. I use very little shampoo and mostly vinegar to wash my hair. My hair is also extremely thick and I find shampoo doesn't really rinse out very well.

Re: recommendation for hair buildup?
I have been loving the Redken Natures Rescue line lately.
Shampoo with their shampoo, then exfoliate with their Refining Sea Polish. It feels like wet sand in your hair, but as you rinse it, you can actually feel how silky and smooth the hair becomes. I use a small amount of their conditioner afterwards (normal washings I use a TON of conditioner, but with this, you barely need it).

I swear it works! I shampoo first (I don't use a lot of shampoo) and then I use the vinegar/water combo. Rinse REALLY well and then use a little conditioner to end! Best thing is it's cheap

Re: recommendation for hair buildup?
I tried it last night and its much better. I know you said you use vinegar much more than shampoo.....do you use it on a daily basis or several times a week?

Re: recommendation for hair buildup?
Awesome!! I use the vinegar rinse about twice a week...which is actually how much I wash my hair! So, every time I wash my hair. If I don't use it, my hair feels gross because the shampoo doesn't wash out.

wow what a great tip! My hair is really thick and I usually have to stand there and rinse for like 2 hours.
