car seat question
is anyone starting with a convertible car seat instead of an infant seat? from everything i've read, the infant seat only lasts about 6 months and since we live in the city, we probably won't do too much driving in the first 6 months anyway...

Re: car seat question
The major bonus about the infant seat is that it doubles as a carrier, so if they fall asleep in the car you don't have to wake them up by having to take them out of the carseat. And you can use it in the Snap n Go stroller, or with an adapter in most other strollers. Plus, every baby is different and grows differently. My son is 17 months and still in his infant seat. Most babies will not reach the height/weight limits in the infant seat by 6 months.

Re: car seat question
i think the main reason to have the infant car seat is so you dont have to take the baby out of the car seat when getting out of the car... but if you wont be drivng much i dont see it being a big deal

Re: car seat question
I am considering this myself. I live in a 2nd floor apartment, baby is due end of Nov. I have a hard enough time now carrying up just my daily necessities for work and can not imagine adding a car seat to the mix. It would just be too heavy to lug up the stairs all the time and I imagine it would be easier to carry the baby without the car seat. I've spoken to BTDT moms and gotten mixed reviews. So, as it stands now, an infant seat is not a priority, but if we get one, it will probably stay in the car full time.

Re: car seat question
It probably depends on the stroller you get.
If you get a "stroller system," it comes with a car seat (unless you get the ones that come with bassinets).
If you get the ones that start at a slightly older age (like the citimini), it's a great idea to get a carseat & the snap n go wheels first. It's decently inexpensive & easy to fold for storage. I essentially wore out the wheels of mine in the 6 months that I used it (yup... DS grew out at exactly 6 months).
The convertible car seat is much heavier & much harder to tote around.

Re: car seat question
I had my DD in an infant seat until she was about 10 months. It was just so convienient...especially when she was napping..I didn't have to physically pick her up. Also, I had the snap and go and it was just so easy to put the infant seat in there when we would take her for a stroll.
