Hairstyles for thick wavy hair (short)

My face is roundish / heart shaped and I always pull my hair back in the summer because my hair is thick and i can't stand it down. Even if I iron it I wind up pulling it back eventually. It looks "eh" and I feel messy a lot of the time.

I ws considering getting a short haircut but I will be 34 and I just don't want to look "dowdy". Can anyone think of a short hairstyle for thick, wavy hair that will not look totally dorky!!??

If you find it let me know. I thought this would be a good idea, but honestly I regret ever cutting it. I wish I just listened to my stylist (my sister) and just gotten a good haircut that suits my natural hair. They can cut it to thin out the layers so it doesn't feel so heavy.

I tried every configuration of short curly/wavy and I hated it every time. I have a round/heartshapish face, my hair is thick wavy/curly and I actually look very cute with short hair, but I can't stand how my hair itself looks and I wake up with an afro in the morning.

Its hard to explain, its flattering on me, but ugly at the same time

I'm seriously considering getting extensions.

god I have the same problem! I wish I had pin straight hair and don't want to spend the $$ just for the summer to keep it straight. I'm afraid with the chemicals that go in will destroy my chances of making it curly. When I straighten it it ends up flaring up..grrrr and today when I styled it curly it looked great wet and when it dried I don't like the way it looks. It looks like the curls are un even. I wish I could curl it nicely...I always have to put it on top of my head in the summer. But trying to find a cool, cute, and professional way. I'm gonna put it up now..

PS. I cut my hair once and regretted it. I haven't been able to get my hair long again...

What a great question! I have thick and wavy hair and desperately want to cut it. It's always in a ponytail now and I rarely have the time to straighten it so it usually looks like cr@p.

But, I have no idea what cut to get. I've started looking on websites to get some ideas but nothing yet. I wish my hair was curly in the true sense of the word (maybe would be easier to style) but instead I have these waves that don't look good on their own, I feel like i always have to straighten it.

I have very thick, wavy hair as well and got so sick of it that I chopped it off to a bob. I have to straighten it, otherwise it will fluff up too much, but because it's so short, it literally takes me 10 minutes to straighten it with a ceramic iron, and then I leave it that way for 2-4 days, so I only shower a few days a week.

So, most mornings, I just jump out of bed, put on some makeup and clothes and walk out the door - saves me a LOT of prep time in the morning!

I'm not quite sure what shape face I have, but I always believed I wouldn't look good with a short haircut, and I was suprised to see that it really does look good...
