Amount of eggs with injectibles?

I am about to do my 4th IUI tomorrow, my first one with injectables.

I did femara for 5 days and follistim injections 4 times, every other day, they were 150 each.

Today CD9 Dr. B says I have 2 mature follicles on my left side and a bunch of smaller ones on the right that I guess won't become mature. I triggered when I got home today (per his instructions) and am going in for an IUI tomorrow and then I have to BD sunday.

I guess I am sad about this, because I thought I would have a lot of eggs, like 5 or 6. The first IUI I had one egg, the second I made two and the third one again. That was with femara alone, now with injectibles I only made 2?

What is a normal amount? Did I not do enough follistim?

I feel like this cycle is a bust and I didn't even start it yet!

It's so hard with injectables!

You really don't want to have too many eggs because you won't be able to control how many fertilize and implant (see: Kate + 8).

I did an IUI with 5 follies and did not get pregnant anyway, but during the cycle my doctor had to have "the talk" with us about selective reduction and all of that which is not exactly the most pleasant thought.

2 eggs gives you a pretty good chance. I'd probably ideally want 3-4, but it's so easy to hyperstim too! In one of my IUI cycles, I ended up having to cancel because with a dose of only 150IU I made a ridiculous amount (I'll just say it was more than 10!)

I had two follies this last iui. Like the pp said, you don't want to hyperstim. Also what made me feel better is, if you think about it, you would only make one folie on a natural cycle so youre already ahead of the game!

i had 3 mature follies on each side last cycle (but for all intents and purposes on my left side is worth anything b/c i only have one tube). i did the same exact protocol you did. i'm on the same protocol this cycle and go in on monday for my monitoring appt. i think 2 mature eggs is good!! it only takes one

I used 150 of gonal every other night for about a week for most of my cycles and had on average 4-5 follies.

I ended up going the IVF route ultimately though.


I agree with what the others have said .. 2 is still a good number because in a natural cycle you would have 1!

When I did IUI (with Clomid though, not injectibles) my RE said he would not do the IUI if I had more than 3 follies. I'm not sure if that is his standard practice or if it was based on me specifically.

On my second IUI with only femara I made two, one on each side. All week I've felt O type pains on both sides so I guess I was excited thinking I had more.

And I am sure most of you like myself would gladly take as many babies as were stuffed in there!

I'm kidding (a bit), I just expected something different after making DH stab me in my stomach all week long!

I was being serious though!! I was like .. 5 follies is giving me nothing, I see no harm in 10!!!

My sister in law had two good sized ones and several smaller ones and ended up pregnant with quads and none of them were from the eggs splitting according to what she was told.

Don't stress, anything is possible.

in all seriousness you dont want or need more than 2. more eggs doesnt necessarily increase your chances of conceiving as much as it increases your chances of multiples. two is really a perfect stim.

i have a follow up question..if anyone is reading this..

i get 2 follies on my clomid cycles both of which failed.

if 2 is good .....why go the injectible route if i will get the same result - kwim?

what makes an injectible cycle more powerful

Even with injectibles the most I ever had was 3. Normally only 1, occasionally 2. I did get pregant this past cycle with just 1....that's all you really need!
