Vacationing alone....

Has anyone else done this?

I'm newly single out of a long term relationship and I have vacation days I planned on using for a couples vacation. Since I'm solo, I planned on doing something anyway.

Any tips? Suggestions? I was thinking about a place with lots to do so I don't get bored. I would love to hear if anyone has done this or something similar.

I have never done it, but it has been my dream! I would go to Europe for a few days, relax, go to all the wonderful museums and do what I want when I want!Chat Icon

Another suggestion, if you are very social and prefer to be around people and have dinner companionship, could be to take a group tour with a reputable company to your desired destination.

Re: Vacationing alone....

i would do it in a heart beat, and thought i would after my ex left me

i think you're fine as long as you're careful..even on trips with other ppl i've done things on my own

what about a cruise? there would be people to meet, and you're "safe" at sea with lots to do, and then you can do group excursions in the port

or europe Chat Icon
i walked around rome a lot on my own and always felt safe

or even an all inclusive somewhere..plenty to do on the resorts

I would think a cruise would be your "safest" bet. The only thing that wold concern me with an all-inclusive resort would be walking to your room at night.

ETA- another good option would be to do a Europe tour. I did one by myself when I graduated college and loved it! I made tons of friends, but since I was by myself I didn't feel obligated to do what other people wanted and did whatever I wanted. There was never a time I was on my own.

Re: Vacationing alone....

I've done it - I love vacationing alone.

First thing to prepare yourself for - it's expensive. If you go on a cruise, you will most likely be paying double! That's because they book the rooms as "double-occupancy." I ended up doing a sail boat cruise through windjammer cruises that was specifically a singles cruise. I was afraid that it was going to be a hook up spot, but it wasn't at all. The great thing about it, was about 90% of the people were there by themselves so it was easy to make friends.

Europe would also be a great idea. I spent 4 days in London by myself just going to museums and sightseeing.
