Keratin Question- NOT happy

So I posted about 3-4 weeks ago I got KEratin at IB Hair Club for the first time (I usually do JHS)

Is it possible that 1 shampooing with "regular" shampoo would take the keratin out?

I have been using the non sulfar shampoo/ conditioner like they said but last week I was getting my hair done for a wedding and I totally forgot to tell them I had keratin and they washed it with regular shampoo and since then I feel like its completely goneChat Icon
I am annoyed bc it cost as much as JHS PLUS I had to buy the shampoo and it didnt hold up nearly as well as JHS . I knew it wasnt the same but I expected to AT LEAST get 2-4 months...not 3-4 weeks!!!
Plus now I just got color done and if I were to redo keratin or do JHS it will totally rip the color out. SO I am basically S C R E W E D for the hot humid summer months and OUT over 250 bucks!

Re: Keratin Question- NOT happy

I don't know if just one shampoo can really take it out but I can sympathize because I was not happy at all with my keratin treatment.

I followed all the rules and by the end of one month, most of the effects were gone.

A big waste in my opinion.

Which sulfate free did they tell u to use?? Sll are not equal. And one shampoo with a color safe treatment shouldn't take ot completely out but do u know what they used that one time?

The shampoo the Hair Club told me to get was the same brand of the keratin that they did. i cannot remember the name right now.

The shampoo that I used on accident I have no clue what it was but the assured me that 1 shampooing would not take it out.

What a waste of money.

sulfate fee? Chat Icon

Who's telling you to use sulfate free? Its should be sodium free, as sodium breaks down keratin. Sulfates do nothing to it. Sulfates are just bad for your hair and you in general.

If the conditioner has sodium in it, and didn't completely wash out, it could have destroyed the keratin, in one use.

eta:
Oh and you can do Keratin over color, its very different than JHS. Keratin will actually seal the color in, and keep the color looking fresh as long as the keratin is still in there.

You can think of keratin as a like a thin wax coating. Putting color over it, may not be a good idea, but under it would be ideal.

See I did my color first then a week later did keratin. It lightened my hair a lot and within a week color was done.

I still believe one washing is what took the keratin out. I am sooo mad.

ITA. I did a lot of research before I got my Keratin straightening a couple of years ago, and it's the salt in shampoos that's a problem (sodium), not the sulfates. That's why you're not allowed to swim in salt water either - it takes the stuff out of your hair. But it's like nobody knows this. I guess it's because Sulfate-free shampoos market themselves much better.

I can't imagine that one shampoo took the stuff entirely out of your hair. With mine, my hair was pretty straight (but not like JHS straight) for 6 weeks, but I still needed to flat-iron it to get it as straight as I liked. And after the 6 weeks it was just softer, better conditioned, and easier to straighten with a flat iron for another 2 or 3 months.

Re: Keratin Question- NOT happy

Honestly...one shampoo won't do that. I have gotten my hair done there 3x already and no issues. I use Organix shampoo which is sulfate and sodium free and I buy that CVS.

Its been a month since I had done and its straight still.

Yes the 1st week its PIN straight and it will slowly come out and washing everyday will also speed up on how long it will last.

For me it wll last 5 months.

Ditto to this and she and I went and got ours done together..

Mine is pin straight AND I just had my hair highlighted and glazed and it's still pin straight..

Re: Keratin Question- NOT happy

When I had my Brazilian Blowout done, I used regular shampoo on it all the time and it didn't go curly right away. It took a few weeks before my curls gradually returned.

Most recently I had my hair straightened (Keratin treatment that you can wash the same day) at Cinderella Hair Castle in Queens based on reviews on Yelp and so far I've been very happy with it. But thanks to the girls on here, I learned what shampoos I should be using (I use the Coppolla and Organix, with Organix being my preference) and my hair is holding up pretty well!

I'm debating whether I should do the Magic Straight at Cinderella Hair Castle come August only because I'm going away to Block Island and want to be able to swim in the water.

Re: Keratin Question- NOT happy

I'm sorry!I can relate too. Got the keratin and it did NOTHING for my hair. Such a waste of money. I did JHS once too and that was amazing. I didnt expect the keratin to be the same but I did expect my hair to at least look shiny or less frizzy, and it doesnt. It actually takes me longer to blow dry too Chat Icon

ETA: I went to a very good salon, got the copolla keratin and have been using the copolla shampoo & conditioner

Me too. I paid $200 for a blowout that lasted two days. Once I washed my hair, I saw no difference. It took just as long to blowout. I was so mad.

Re: Keratin Question- NOT happy

Keratin is a defrizzer and Brazilian is a relaxer.

That can make a difference in how long it lasts.
