need your opinions - re: HIPPA Laws
Dr. Braverman sent me for my infectious disease panel back in April. I went to Enzo Lab in Holbrook. Last week I got an EOB from my old insurance Co (that I have not had in 3 years) denying the charges - well yea. Then I get a bill from ENZO for over $7,000 for the panel saying that I did not have coverage. Also on the bill it says that the requesting physician is a Dr. Brandel. I have never heard of this doctor so I look it up and he is a GP in Baldwin. It turns out that Enzo sent my lab results to this Dr. Brandel - never to Dr. B.
Can anyone tell me if this is a violation of any HIPPA laws? And if so, what should I do?

it could be, unless this other doctor is someone that Dr. B works with. Did you try calling Dr. B's office to see if that was a mistake?

Contact the lab and have them re-submit the bill to the correct insurance company.

Already done! I am so confused with this entire situation because all of my B/W thru Dr. B's office goes to Enzo and they have always billed my current ins co. When I went in to the lab to have the bloodwork on this particular day I even gave them my insurance card.
It just seems so weird to me.

Is Dr. Brandel the dr. who reviews the lab results? I remember seeing a weird doctor on one of my bills...when I called to inquire with my office they informed me that dr. was the person who read/reviewed the lab slides and writes up the final report.
