How do I know if I'm overwatering?

My mom tells me I am, but I have no idea how I can tell?

I thought veggies needed water everyday?

Feel the soil. If it is damp, don't water.

Sometimes colder weather makes the plant retain the water.

It depends on what you're growing. Some veggies like the soil to be more moist than others. Too much moisture can promote sickness in some veggies. Best best is to stick your finger in the soil and feel it. Sometimes it may look dry on top but just a half inch to an inch below it may still be quite moist. Also depends on how much sun exposure they're getting. Obviously more sun will dry out the soil sooner.

I'm growing Red Beauty Peppers, Cucumbers and Tomatoes...

Do peppers like less water than the other two?

Would you consider soaker hoses? They are the most effective form of watering because they drip slowly and get the water all the way down to the root level, not just the surface. The plants will grow deeper roots and be less apt to stress during heat.

Best part is, you hook it up to the hose and walk away - it does the rest over time. If you know it's going to rain for a bunch of days, just turn the hose off.

I setup a huge soaker hose in one of my flower beds but I keep forgetting to hook it up and turn it on. Chat Icon I have a leak on my spigot though and I don't want to leave my hose on all the time. Chat Icon
