Does this ever happen to you re: chicken?

I am a meat eater, but sometimes when I cook chicken, especially if it is a thin cutlet, the texture (fully cooked) just skeeves me out. It's almost rubbery even though it is not overcooked. I made chicken and I couldn't even finish my dinner tonight.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it just the piece of chicken?

I don't know what it is, but it definitely happens to me half the time I eat white meat, I have to spit it out and then won't eat it again for a couple weeks!

Definitely!! I find when I use my newer, more expensive pans, I get the rubbery texture. When I use my old, dented, stained cheap-o pan from Stop n Shop... it comes out fine. Go figure! Chat Icon

I usually can't stand eating the chicken I cooked and if its microwaved, I gag at the thought of it. My mom is the same way.. basically, any chicken I eat now, either my mom makes it for me, or we buy stuff that's already cooked. I can't make it and eat it.

I cant stand the smell of chicken cooking unless it's breaded, sometimes I have to have DH cook it or I wont eat it after.

I find it happens more with Perdue, too! I've actually started buying the Stop n Shop brand chicken and it's a little better, but if it's thin sliced and in that new pan, still rubbery!

ETA: I'm glad I'm not alone, I'm a terrible cook! lol!

I wonder if the same thing would happen in a restaurant. Honestly, since I cook chicken at home, I almost never order it out. I usually order fish. It would be a good experiment.

yes.. this happens to me a lot.. always with chicken breasts that aren't thin... if they are super duper thin then it is OK.. more tender. Maybe try that?

Happens a lot to me...especially if the breast is too thick. I pefer thin, thin, thin.

I just got lunch and asked for a piece of grilled chicken breast. It is such a thick piece that I pretty much gagged on the first piece and had to throw it out.

I am easily skeeved out by chicken...

try putting them in the slow cooker/crock pot. They will always come out juicy and tender that way.
I agree with PP that the pan is to blame.
