Is it weird that I'm happy we removed a whole country from our Europe trip?

We were originally going to squeeze in Amsterdam, Belgium, France and Italy over a two week period. During our plans, DH started to get restless about all the moving around and suggested we remove one of the big countries from our list.

To both of our surprise, we both wanted to remove Italy! I know, I know, trip of a lifetime blah blah blah. Chat Icon We want to make a tradition of taking a big 2 week trip every 2 to 5 years, so this is not our last trip across the pond.

But NOW I'm excited because I want to add a day to Amsterdam, have it be our first destination, stay for at least 3 days, and use one for a day trip to Bruges in Belgium. I found a really cute B&B that has beautiful suites and once DH agrees, I'm going to book it.

Then we'll be off to Paris, with a side trip to Provence for the rest of the trip. I feel a lot better that we won't be trying to squeeze too much in and can enjoy ourselves!

I don't think it is weird. It would be great to go to all those countries, but taking one away will let you enjoy the countries you do visit even more. You will have more time to relax and do everything you want to do. And like you said, you can always go back to Italy on another trip!

Not weird at all... you want to enjoy each place, rather than worry about fitting in everything, and actually taking it all in. You can do Italy next time.. Chat Icon enjoy!! Your trip sounds fabulous!!

Let me know if you need help with Paris. What time of the year are you going?

I think the area of Europe you are going will go well together.

For Bruges, save some $$$ to buy their amazing lace. Oh.... you MUST eat as much as you can of Belgium chocolate. They DO have the best. And get Mussel fries. This is not that much known to tourist but locals eat them. It's cooked mussels (minus shell) in a cone of fries.

I am not familiar enough with Amsterdam but I love the canals.

Sounds like a smart plan. You will not regret spending more time in Amsterdam, it's our favorite city.

Thanks!! We are going in September and we'll have a half day the day we arrive in Amsterdam, two full days to be there and take a day trip to Bruges if we feel like it, then stay them morning the next day, take the train to Paris.

In Paris we'll have five full days, then the 1/2 days that we'll have for traveling. I just booked the hotel today in the Latin Quarter so we'll be centrally located. Then we go to the South of France which I know nothing about yet! I have to figure out where we want to go, get reviews/prices on lodging.

I would love any and all advice you have! I'm just trying to get rooms booked so we have nice, clean places to stay, and then I'll concentrate on ideas on sights to see while we're there. Chat Icon

I think it sounds smart! You won't feel rushed and can experience more in the other places. You can do Italy next time and spend more time there to get the full experience of what you want!

Have fun!!
