Follies...UPDT

Well this is my last cycle before starting IVF....We decided to try another IUI.
This cycle was Gonal-f and Femera.

The question is...today I went for my sono...I am currently CD7. I have 4 follies that look like they will mature (around 17)and a few that will prob not reach maturity. Dr. B told me about the risk of 4 and that hey, you never know they can all fertilize (yeh right)...but anyhow! I am just curious how many you all had and if it made you stop at some point b/c you had too many?
ThanksChat Icon

UPDT...well I went today and I have 5 follies. Ready to trigger tonight and IUI tomorrow...sooooooo DH and I are concerned with the risk of multiples. Are we being too cautious???!?! Anyone else have 5 mature follies?

Re: Follies...

For most of my IUIs, I had an average of 4-6 follicles. Ironically, I had 3 the cycle I conceived my son last year.

We moved onto IVF after trying 3 IUIs after my loss (took 3 to conceive the first time). My last IUI cycle was a chemical.

Re: Follies...

For my last IUI, in which I conceived (albeit had a m/c due to a genetic issue), I had 4-5 mature follies. It was my first and only cycle with femara and gonal.

Re: Follies...

we just did our first iui with injectables and i had 3 mature follies on each side. my right follies are pretty much useless b/c i don't have a right tube so for all intents and purposes, i had 3 follies that were possibilities. he told me the same thing about the risk of multiples and i get it why that's a concern to him but just like pennycat, i'd seriously like to have 10 follies in there Chat Icon Chat Icon he said that if i had both tubes he probably would've cancelled my cycle due to the risk of multiples but since i only have one tube, he was letting us go ahead.

good luck!!!

I would go for it- as long as you are comfortable with the possibility of multiples or selective reduction.

Re: Follies...UPDT

I do think "anything can happen" and you do need to be comfortable (if there really is a comfort with knowing you're having multiples.) On that note, I've triggered with plenty of mature follies and have transferred 3 perfect grade A embryos, numerous times.

I had 5 follies last month and BFN- I personally wouldnt pass up the chance if it means getting pregnant but this is a personal choice for you to make.
Good Luck

Re: Follies...UPDT

dr. B wouldn't let you go forward with the IUI if he thought there was an EXTREMELY high chance of multiples. but im sure you got the selective reduction speech anyway. i think 5 mature is a fantastic number but like the PP said you absolutely have to be comfortable with having multiples or selective reduction (which im sure only becomes a reality if you actually got pregnant with more than 3).

good luck!!
