White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
Is taking over my lawn! Alot of things say its included in standard grass seed! ***!?
How do I get rid of it without killing my entire lawn????????? They're saying once it takes over you may need to rip up ALL YOUR GRASS AND START FROM SCRATCH!!!!!!! AH!

Re: White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
yep and it sucks!
My husband is fighting a losing battle with it. He ripes it up, cleans out the area then re-seeds.
Sad, but its comical at times! I tell my husband as long as its green, just cut it!

Re: White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
We used to have a lot but I noticed recently that it's gone. Our landscaper put down some Vigaro Weed and Feed last fall, again this spring, and a second treatment a few weeks ago. I'm wondering if that had an effect on it. I actually liked the clover because the bunnies really liked it, but we haven't had bunnies for a few years now anyway so I guess there's no point in trying to bring it back.

Re: White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
I had to come back to my original post about this to tell you ladies that I went to the nursery whining about my problem with this...
The guy recommended I use this:
I used it ONCE and they're ALL GONE!!!!!!!! Its amazing! I probably used half the bottle in one use but I covered my whole lawn. So happy so I had to share!

Re: White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
What you're killing are plants that benefit your lawn by drawing nitrogen from the air and putting it back into the soil, bringing health to the grass roots. This is why these amazing little plants are put into grass seed mixtures.
Unfortunately, the unrealistic idea of a perfect lawn is what drives people to use chemicals on it. Besides releasing toxins into the air and your soil, you're actually hurting your lawn rather than helping it.

You should really look into why it's there and what it's doing for you before resorting to poisonous chemicals. There's a reason Dutch Clover is in grass seed mixtures, and plenty of threads here with information.
Tricia I really like and respect you but this is such a loaded, biased comment and you know some people really don't like flowers all over their lawn
To KittyGags - thanks for the info, my DH fights with the clover all the time!

Re: White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
Yea, I was editing while you quoted to something less "loaded". But biased? I have an opinion that's different from the PP's, and I'm expressing it. Nothing wrong with that.
I try to help on all gardening matters on the Home board, by sharing what I know. But I do believe every person has a responsibility to at least understand and accept the risks of what they're doing when they're putting chemicals into the air and soil. You don't?

No I completely understand you wanting to help, it was only the "poisonous chemicals" comment I was referring to (and it seems that you sort of agree as you edited ) Maybe biased was the wrong choice of words but it was early in the morning and I couldn't think of another way to phrase it
I don't think that clover is the only way to make the grass healthier, and I certainly don't think people are being unrealistic when trying to rid their lawn of a weed, no matter how pretty or helpful it might be. I just think your point might have been better made if you gave advice on how to organically remove the unwanted plant, rather than berate someone for wanting to see it gone.

Re: White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
Well, to be fair, they are poisonous. I'm really only stating a fact there, but I realize it's something people don't want to hear. I doubt most people read the warning labels or just consider them scare tactics maybe.
I have actually offered helpful advice on this subject (and many, many others) in the past, with specific questions and helpful suggestions. I do think many people can be careless with these things, and get taken in by a nice label without considering the risks.
If it seems like they only want to hear opinions similar to their own and don't want to consider alternatives, I try not to get into it. But I really want to offer an alternative to people who have an open mind because it may make a difference. Even I get p*ssed off sometimes (it's been a long time since that happened last, I was due!)

Re: White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
this is an interesting thread to me, because I have a patch of WDC on my front lawn and I love it! I think it looks pretty..and whenever we leave the house, DS always picks me a flower/weed from the patch and gives it to me.

Re: White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
The PP brought up a good point about the rabbits too... They actually prefer the clover over my flowers. I know this because when I see them, I stand watch, ready to go scare them away

Re: White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
I HATE IT! I've tried ripping it up but it always comes back and there is much of it!
I just had my husband put down the Scotts® Turf Builder® With PLUS 2® Weed Control. I don't like using the chemicals but I don't want a weedy clover filled lawn either.

Re: White Dutch Clover!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry that my chemical use is bothersome. I don't have a bunny problem and I want a green lawn! Not weeds, or clovers and I don't think they're pretty. JMO.
