Talk to me about Injectible IUI's...
So right now am in2WW of 3rd IUI (2nd IUI where I have had normal TSH levels). If this one is a bust I think I'd like to move on and be more aggressive as I can only stay with Dr. B through September.
I also want FULL blood testing.
Currently I've done CD3 testing, femara for 5 days, CD 10 testing and when I was ready the ovidril shot (only once, the other times I surged on my own), then B2B IUI's. I made good eggs this way, one egg, 2 eggs and one egg in that order for the 3 IUI's.
Dr. B explained the injectibles just make you produce more eggs upping your chances each month that one will fertilize. I like that.
Can you explain to me the meds, what they do, and the side effects? I frolick around all summer long in a bikini and no one IRL knows I am TTC or am having issues. I am nervous about brusing on my stomach and having to explain.
So how does this work? What is the schedule of meds and are they going to make me more insane than I already am?

Re: Talk to me about Injectible IUI's...
i just did my first iui with injectables and it wasn't so bad. the only difference from the schedule you are currently doing is that you'll do follistim (most likely every other day) at the same time you are on the femara. that's the protocol dr. b gave me. it ended up being 4 shots total of the follistim but you may need less if your follicles grow faster than mine did. i ended up with 3 mature follicles on each side (he's being very aggressive with me b/c i only have 1 tube). i didn't experience any side effects from the follistim.
is lovenox a part of your protocol? if so, that will make you bruise. if not, you should be relatively bruise free!
HTH!! good luck!

Re: Talk to me about Injectible IUI's...
I switched to injectables and didn't have ANY problems. I didn't have any side effects or anything. I did 150 folisitim every other day (4 times in total) along with femara, dex and the progesterone.
When I told Dr.B I wanted to get more agressive with treatment this is what we did.
Good Luck

I'd invest in a one piece bathing suit.
The meds are similar to IVF, you get monitored MUCH more frequently (every day for the critical period of time to prevent you from making too many eggs) & they are injected usually into your stomach... so even though the needles are tiny, they will bruise you.
The meds are probably slightly different depending on who your RE is. Side effects differ depending on person.

Re: Talk to me about Injectible IUI's...
I was just told that this is our next protocol. My doc made is seem pretty easy and explained to me that I wouldn't have the side effects like I did from Clomid, which I liked hear. Clomid gave me terrible back acne and migraines. From what he explained, it's a pen like needle that I would have to inject myself in the tummy at night for 7-10 days. In this time, i will be monitored and depending on how well I respond, we'll move forward with the IUI. He also mentioned that IVF would be a good route for us using this method too.

Nooooo! That's what i was afraid of. I think it would be more odd to friends and family if I was in a one piece than if I was all bruised up. I can't inject it directly into my rear end, the part that would be covered? Haha it is meatier down there anyway.
So I would do femara still and add in follistim which is an injection, every other day??? I assume follistim is what makes me make extra eggs?
What is Dex? What does it do, and when in the cycle do you normally take it?
How many extra days of monitoring are generally necessary? Before IUI's and during I generally O on CD 11-13, have a 14-15 day LP, and AF comes every 26-27 days with a random 25 or 28 day in there from time to time.
It is SO annoying that this has to start at the begining of the summer! I am swimming, at the beach or pool and boating all summer long with our huge families and tons of friends. I cannot believe this is what I am stressing out so bad about!
ETA - No I have never taken Lovenox, what is that and is it a shot?

Re: Talk to me about Injectible IUI's...
I never got a bruise from any of the folisitim or ovidrel. I never had a problem. Lovenox def gives bruises (someone showed me theres once and I was shocked to see how bad you can bruise) but you shouldn't worry with the folisitim and ovidrel. I would have been able to wear a bikini no problem. Worse case, it would be a tiny bruise and you can cover it with makeup if you needed to. I don't think you will need a problem at all! I was on dexamethasone due to an elevated LH level. He would know by your bloodwork on cd3 if you needed that. I think you can plan to run in your bikini unless he changes your protocol and adds lovenox.

The Ovidrel didn't give me a bruise at all. I actually got a copy of my CD3 bloodwork to give to his BIL Dr. Barandes and read it in the waiting room. It said my LH and FSH levels were in the normal range. Hoping I need as little meds as possible.
What is Lovenox? What does that do? I hope I don't need it. A tiny bruise I can blame on acupuncture, no problem. But sometimes I hear you girls talking about insane bruising and I know you all aren't wussies and if anything it's probably worse than you make it out to be unfortunately.
Thanks guys! I feel a bit better. It's always scary doing a procedure for the first time. I almost died the first time DH gave me the Ovidrel and it was no big deal.

Re: Talk to me about Injectible IUI's...
I personally never had any bruising from Gonal. If anything it was like a little dot (think of like a dot you would make with a ballpoint pent) but usually it was nothing. In one typical cycle, you probably shouldn't need to use Gonal or Follistim more than like 5 or 6 times.
Bruising from Lovenox is a whole other story!!
but that's not what you will be using for this unless it's determined you need it.
I felt fine using Gonal and that's even when I used it for IVF and used more than double what I used for my IUI cycles. The only side effect I really had was lots and lots of bloating.
