Re: Liverpool?
I live about an hour away from Liverpool, its a beautiful city. There are two catherdrals, the Church of England one, which is very modern and HUGE and the Catholic one, which is much more traditional. The cathedrals are light right at opposite sides of the city. They are unmissable these two cathedrals!
Oh gosh, so much to say about Liverpool...lets see...there is quite a lot to do and see there, and I think probably you could spend 2-3 days there.
Port Sunlight - Its a bit like the Hershey of England, it was founded by the Lever Brothers, I haven't been in a few years, but its really amazing with a lovely art gallery. Of course, you have the famous Mersey, you can do the Ferry crossing(they do actually play Ferry Cross the Mersey on the crossing!) and have a look at the famous Liver Building. Crosby Beach...omg, if you do go to Liverpool you can go the amazing Crosby Beach, there are like a hundred Anthony Gormley statues on the beach, its amazing. Also Formby Beach, there is a great red squirrel sanctuary there. OOh, and there is a Tate Modern at Liverpool Docks. They do also have a tall ships festival once a year, but I don't know when it is this year. Oooh, also, Liverpool FC, or Everton, you could try to catch a football match while you were there...
I think there is a famous band from Liverpool (and it ain't the La's...) anyway, of course there are lots of Beatles themed activities to do, tours, Mendips & 20 Forthlin Road...etc etc.
And, if I didn't mention this...well, I would be a bad adopted Mancunian. If you come to Liverpool, take a day out and spend it in fantastic Manchester! Its another brilliant historical city with great shopping and historical sights. But we only have one catherdral, and our most famous export music wise is at the moment...Take That! or Oasis...whichever you like better...
Thinking about this overnight, if you want to go to some good restaurants, I would suggest Chinatown, there is a really big Chinatown in Liverpool and imo, the best Chinese food outside of Hong Kong can be found in this part of the world, but its not the same kind of food you get in NY, its Hong Kong Style, so its quite different. If you want Italian, you could go with the upscale chains like Pizza Express, Strada, Piccolino (recommend Piccolino highly) Liverpool One is a big shopping centre with lots of places to eat....Chaopraya does good Thai... Here is a list of restaurants in Liverpool
