another car seat question

if a convertible car seat says the minimum rear facing weight limit is 5lbs...then why do we even need an infant car seat?

I dont think you NEED the infant car seat...its just that people like it bc you can transport the infant in the carseat to and from the car...the convertible carseats stay IN the car...

I think it is more of a convenience thing to have an infant car seat. I live in a 2nd floor apt and can not imagine carrying the infant seat with the baby up the stairs all the time, so we have been tossing around the idea of skipping the infant seat all together and just getting a convertible.

this, esp in the beginning when they tend to fall asleep a lot in the car to transport them, it's the easiset thing in the world!!!! Once DD went into the convertible I could never transfer her while asleep she'd always wake up
