Tell your mother to take the train and have someone pick her up at 30th Street Station in Philly. Then ask your doctor the furthest he/she wants you travelling that week.

I am (was) THE most laid back 'suck it up and deal' type pregnant woman EVER - I wouldn't be trapsing to philly at 39 weeks PG just b/c my Mother needed a ride - sorry but your family is being totally and completely unreasonable

you are not supposed to go anywhere further than 1hr from your hospital. and majority of dr.s give this order once baby is full term. I wouldn't drive anywhere far NOW at 33 weeks ...I couldn't imagine at 39. Thats ridiculous that they wouldn't understand that!!!

based upon your presentation of course everyone on the board will side with you. But, my observation is that there are deeper issues than wether or not you are able to drive your mom to this baby shower.
Families can be so difficult...

I agree. While I think it's horrible the situation you're being placed in it also sounds like the family drama well runs deeper then this.
My family is a pain in the assss also and I understand 100% to not be able to do anything right. This is the start of an even bigger battle with you being a Mom and if you give in now you really are setting the ground work to get walked all over....trust me, i'm there right now

That is BEYOND ridiculous.
Actually I kinda want to slap your family around a little bit and I don't even know them.
You are NOT being ridiculoous.
But tell your mom you will do it,.... you just need to check with your dr first to make sure you are allowed. Then dr says NO and hopefully you are in the clear.
This is just ridiculous.
I was a PASSENGER in a car for a 2.5 to 3 hour trip this passed weekend... and when I got out of the car my feet were SOOOOO swollen I couldn't even walk. I was at the 34w mark.
I can't imagine doing that at 39 weeks! And what if you go into labor on Philly???? You wouldn't even make it back to your own hospital or your own dr!!
this is outrageous!! you are totally in the right and yes your family does sound volatile!! I'm actually angry for you!!!
