We were in Lancaster last 4th of July and went to a nearby park for fireworks that were really nice. It was near a big mall, Mary, maybe you know where that is.

Could it have been Longs Park, near Park City Mall, just outside Lancaster? Mary
Easier to park at Park City, close to Boscov's, and walk under the highway, to the park!! Oops!! Wrong link, let me see if I can find a better one!!!! Sorry, can't find a link for Long's Park, for 2011, but they'll probably have them!!!!

Re: Mercy me, tourists in Lancaster, Pa.
We will go down later in the summer for a trip to Dutch Wonderland with our boys. I was in Lancaster the first weekend in June last year for my college reunion (F&M) and there were a lot of tourists in town around that time.

Lizzie, you graduated from FM? When I was a student nurse at Lancaster General, in the late 60's, we had FM Profs come to our classrooms, to teach classes for credits, should we ever want our degree. We had a nice English Prof. who thought Chap Stick was for hemmroids!!! He had the class crack'in up!!! At the time we earned a 3 yr. diploma/RN. Today, the nurses dorm and classrooms are no longer there!!! Ahhhh, the fun, and memories, and boyfriends we went through, and of course the training!!!! I use to walk to FM with a nursing friend, who dated/married an FM student. Did you go to the Steak Shop on the corner of James and Orange? Tell me the places in Lancaster you frequented during your time at FM!!! What was your degree in? Mary

Re: Mercy me, tourists in Lancaster, Pa.
Mary,
I did graduate from F&M. I received a BA in Government. I realize I'm dating myself a bit, but when I started there, they still had the Posey Ironworks factories across the street from campus (where the big indoor pool, shops and restaurants are now). They had turned one of the old factories into an ice rink for the students. I think the campus is even more beautiful now than it was when I was there.
I didn't personally go to that steak/sub shop (not a fan of red meat), but I know exactly which one you are talking about. A friend of mine had an off campus apartment above it our senior year.
We went to Lancaster Dispensing Compnay a lot. Also, sometimes when the weather was nice, if we got out of class early on a Friday we would walk down to the Central Market.
We have taken our sons to Dutch Wonderland twice and I always include a stop at the campus when we go. I have a soft place in my heart for it.
My college roomate, who is originally from Maryland, liked Lancaster so much, she stayed, married and is raising a family there!
Liz

Oh, yeah, it's definitely nicer, now that the shops etc. have sprung up on Harrisburg Pike!! Ok, here's a secret..... My nursing friends and I use to ride the loop, to check out the guys!!! I'll never forget, how my roommate, borrowed her boyfriend's car, which was owned by his Dad, and we went around the loop, and Carol, took a one way up an alley, that she shouldn't have done, and a policeman stopped us!!!! Carol was soooo scared, but the officer, once finding out we were student nurses at LGH, left her off with a warning, and was actually very nice!!!! Another time when we were stopped at the light at Prince/King, close to the old Army Navy store, some scary guys came up to our car, pounded on the hood, and walked away, thank THE LORD!!!!! So many memories!!!!! Mary

Yes, that's it! We walked over to Long's Park last year and listened to the band perform, but to be honest, there was a better view from the mall on the lawn on the highway (too many trees blocking our view at the park). Plus it was really dangerous walking along the highway I felt like.

I think a lot of folks just park and watch from the Park City parking lot. Mary
