If you have a pond
I'd love any advice. We have a pond and haven't had much luck over the years (it came with the house). We finally got the liner fixed so no leaks. We've tried fish but they don't last beyond a few months or a years tops and I feel bad to keep buying new ones. If we don't do fish, are there plants that will help prevent it from being overrun with mosquitos?
What do you have in your pond and what maintenance tips do you have? TIA

Re: If you have a pond
we have a pond that came with our house too! unfortunately i dont have any pointers to you as i am clueless for ponds too :) do you have a filter? that might be it. we have one.. but no idea really if it would help out fish or not. haha we use those organic mosquito pellets that float on top during the summer to avoid it being all buggy, they actually worked pretty well last year! we have a few frogs we inherited which are pretty cute. i think we actually have to replace our liner though- would you mind sharing who did yours or if you did it yourself, how hard was it? thanks and good luck!

Re: If you have a pond
We will definitely try the pellets. I hadn't heard of them before. I think we'll consider getting tadpoles since the frogs are great at eating bugs! We have a filter but I think we need a better one.
As for the liner, I think we got one at HD or Lowes. We did it ourselves. We got an extra large one and folded it over so that it's double thick. Held it down with large stones and that was about it. It was actually pretty easy.

Re: If you have a pond
My dad's had a pond for 20 years.
fish: do you have a smaller hole at the bottom that the fish can hibernate in the winter? it is usually a few degrees warmer at the bottom, I believe:
In the winter if you put a log into the pond down to the bottom and sticking out of the water it will bring oxygen down.
Raccoons and cats also get fish.
as for mosquitoes - do you have some kind of waterfall feature - that should break up the stillness of the water.
