Anyone make their own burgers?
Im trying to step away from convience foods and already prepared foods to save money and I realized im probably spending alot buying frozen burgers when i could just make them from chopmeat.......but i havent done this since i was a kid and feel like they will probably fall apart when i put them on the grill...
....does anyone make them and have any tips? Can you make them and freeze them?
Thanks

Re: Anyone make their own burgers?
I always make my own since because I can used better quality/more lean meat (don't go higher than 90% lean tho, or they will be too dry) and I love alot of flavor in my food so i spice them up (everybody does love my burgers !!!!
You can buy a burger press in BBB or target, they make them perfect. If I don't use the press, I like to weigh them so they are all the same size. Roll it into a ball first and then flatten it, press you thumbs in the middle so the center is thinner than the outside, its helps it cook more evenly.
I stack them with wax paper in between and then freeze whatever we don't cook. I just wrap them in foil and keep the wax paper in between them so they easily separate! I use turkey and chicken sometimes too!

Re: Anyone make their own burgers?
i make my own, its so easy! if i'm lazy i just add a packet of liption onion soup mix. usually i will make them with worsestershire (sp?) sauce, montreal steak seasoning, salt, pepper, an egg and a little bit of breadcrumbs. you can definitely freeze the burgers if you make a whole bunch!

Re: Anyone make their own burgers?
I also freeze them after I prepare them (but not cook them).
I use Worcestershire sauce in all the burgers and then different seasonings depending on the flavor of burger. Sometimes steak seasoning. Sometimes cajun seasoning. Sometimes jalapenos and onions. DH then likes to put cheese, lettuce and tomato on his. I like hot sauce on/in mine. If you like beer, Guinness burgers on the food network site were delicious. cooked red onions go on top. Rachael Ray has some easy and good ones too, with balsamic mayo and cheese inside the burgers.
For turkey, I usually do breadcrumbs and onions and hot sauce.

I have the tupperware hamburger press and freezer set. Makes perfect patties and you can freeze and use individually.

Re: Anyone make their own burgers?
I always make my own. I like to experiment with different ingredients and seasonings and they are just way better than the frozen patties. I've never had an issue with the beef burgers falling apart.

Re: Anyone make their own burgers?
Homemade is so easy and soooo much tastier. I make these all summer and freeze them in wax paper. Here's my go to recipe but I change it up all the time.
minced garlic, diced red onion, liquid smoke, worcestershire, hot sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, grill seasoning, and a drizzle of olive oil
I just eyeball the amounts and they come out great every time. If I'm lazy, I'll just add chopped onion and BBQ sauce which comes out great too.

I love making my own burgers. It tastes much better than buying premade patties. I always put in indian spices to kick it up a notch. DH wouldn't have his burgers any other way!

Re: Anyone make their own burgers?
I make my own as well. I also grind my own meat, I don't trust the chopped meat in the store. I do 50% chuck and 50% sirloin and add minced garlic and salt that's it. It tastes like a steak burger. They don't fall apart.

Re: Anyone make their own burgers?
I make my own. Click here for the recipe. I go for either Buffalo Meat (less fatty) or a low fat content, but the more fat the juicier it is so some people suggest you go for one in the 80s.
Also, the more you mix the meat and press it down the more juice you are squeezing out and making the meat tough so it'll be drier. Same goes for number of ingredients you're adding to it.

I make my own too, I usually use 85% lean ground beef, and I just mix in a little salt and pepper, use the hamburger press. I freeze them individually in the press-n-seal.

I made them on my grill pan. Still have not replaced my old grill I tossed.
I used a mesquite grill sauce, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder. I made 3 oz burgers and they were done to perfection. No bun. Added slcied tomotoes, onions, pickles and roasted red peppers. Made baked pierogies with them. Yum!!

That's what we do. I forget the 2 cuts of meat DH buys. It gives it a better texture too. We don't go crazy & add in all the stuff mentioned above. I like my burgers to taste like meat. We make these on the griddle though, I haven't tried them on teh grill.
Before that we used ground beef. My parents use the patties from the meat counter, but never the frozen pre-packaged patties.

Homemade burgers are so much better than frozen, but the best frozen burgers are Bubba Burgers.

I always make my own burgers. For Turkey burgers I add chopped onions, yellow squash, parsley, cumin, garlic powder, salt, paprika and an egg- they are always a hit!

Re: Anyone make their own burgers?
Just did for the first time on Monday! Thanks to this thread, it inspired me to try. Came out great! Made 3 ranch burgers (were ok, DH had two tonight but topped with cheese and chili). Also made 2 stuffed burgers with cheese and came out great!
The two ranch burgers froze fine since they were eaten today and not Monday. The others were baked in the oven on Monday (no grill here) and they came out sooo juicy. The cheese in the middle probably helped.
Also, no hamburger press. I simply used a lid to my animal cracker container and lined it with wax paper and pressed the meat by hand into it. Made perfect patties and also helped to seal the edges so the gooey cheese when cooked didn't leak out!
Thanks for the inspiration ladies! And DH says thanks too!
