Intro and lots of ???
Hello Lovely Ladies First let me say how much I admire each and every one of you. This is such a tough card to be dealt and by lurking, I know how strong you all are and how awesome it is that you want to help each other here. Secondly, I ask these questions in relation to my daughter who is not a chat board person (her father's genes!). So where to start? She's 28, had been on bc since late hs and just had her 1st IUI Monday. So far, she has SOME of the symptoms of POS and my sil has a lower then normal sperm count. Those factors lead to the IUI. The issue is the excruiating pain she experiences when ovulating (never happened on the pill). She couldn't go to work nor could she revisit the specialist as she was supposed to yesterday. She's thinking she may have endometriosis which she says can't be determined without lap. surgery. Is this correct? It just seems to me that before undergoing any of these procedures, it would make sense to rule that out no? So, I guess I'll keep it short for now and just ask if anyone else had a similar situation. Horrible pain during ovulation once going off the pill, inability to conceive and not having an answer for what this pain is all about? Just to let you know, she and I are very close. I would only like to share any info. with her that I may get here which is OK with her. In other words...I promise, I'm not an overbearing mother!! Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Re: Intro and lots of ???
hello! i have endometriosis and didnt know until i had an internal sono and a cyst was found on my left ovary.
before i had the surgery i always had excrutiating pain during my period! i never knew something was wrong cause i was always told everyone has cramps. my period was very heavy and lasted about 7 days.
after the surgery i went on the pill and never had any pain again. Now that we are TTC i have been off the pill since Oct 2010 and no new cysts has grown and i'm still not having any pain.
the only way to really have a dx of endo is by having the lap. and not everyone who has endo has pain so just because she has pain during ovulation doesnt mean its endo.
i wish her lots of with her IUI!! and hopefully wont have to go thru with the lap

Welcome you will find great support and answeres here for your daughter.
This seems very similar to my case, I also have a mild case of PCOS. I had an internal sono and a large cyst was found on my right ovary, 6cm. The technician was not to sure if she saw traces of endo, so a lap was scheduled to remove the cysts which caused me a lot of pain. During the lap they found a moderate amount of endo which is why they thought I was getting pain.
I started seeing an RE about a year and half after my surgery as we were still not getting pregnant. Another cyst was found on right over again and we decided not to touch it as I did not have any pain. Unfortunately, after 2 failed IUI's we decided to have another lap and have the cyst removed again. Thankfully no endo was found this time around.
I agree with the pp, having a lap done will determine if endo is present and will be removed. Hopefully that will aleviate her pain and elevate her chances of conceiving. Good luck to you and your daughter. FM if you ahve any other questions.

Re: Intro and lots of ???
Welcome!
The pain during ovulation might just be ovulation pain (I think it's called mittleschmertz). It might not be endo. An hsg (xray with dye) can be done to determine a blockage from endo and they can also do a saline sono. The only way to definitly diagnose endo is a lap but it's usually not done unless endo is suspected. (blocked tubes, heavy painful periods etc). Having endo doesn't always interfere with conceiving.
Good luck to your daughter

Re: Intro and lots of ???
Thanks so much girls. Any info. is helpful since as you know, this is a whole new world in itself. There's much to learn. I guess then doing the IUI's first is one of the ways we might find out if something else deserves further testing?
The level of emotional difficulty would for me (and I think a bit for her as well )be eased somewhat if we knew what this pain was all about. She's not one to complain about it without good reason.
So yeah, a Mom doesn't stop HATING it when one of her own is in pain! And her 2nd year (in July) married has been tough with moves, job, ridiculous commute, continuing in-law issues etc. Now this...
I pray God will give her the gift she's wanted her whole life. I pray for all of you who yearn to bring alive a maternal instinct you have always known was there to nuture later. But your determination of "later" is not universe friendly. As my other daughter is fond of saying: "It sucks sometimes being a grown up!"It IS wonderful that you have each other here for support and companionship. Going through this without reaching out has to be a horribly lonely feeling.
I've found in my "older" age that when I can hang onto a feeling of faith and trust that something will work out. Maybe not exactly what I wanted but a good thing nonetheless. Or several times even better then imagined! Not easy in desperate times, but strangely true.
