What do you do, take time off? Let them be there alone, or have someone come over ?

If I know them personally and can trust them I would go to work - We have a contractor that has been in the family for years and we trust him - If its anyone else I would make sure someone is at home

Same here - we have some good friends that have done work for us - plumbers, electricians, etc - and we leave them alone - otherwise, someone is there in the house.

Re: If you are having work done on your house and you have to wrok
When we had our major reno done, and it took about 3 months+, there's no way that we could stay home with them all the time, even though DW is a SAHM. After a few days, we started to leave them alone for short times, and towards the end, we fully trusted them. For a follow-up project a year or so later, we didn't have to worry about the trust issue again, since it was the same group of guys.

DH and I tried to alternate taking time off... His parents live close - MIL works P/T, FIL is retired so we sometimes asked them to stay there.
We try not to leave anyone alone in our home.
