I still say NY is #1. I lived in San Francisco for 9 years and was there when their real estate market took off, a few years before it did here. It is still more expensive to live in Manhattan than SF, IMO. If you look at the smaller things, like cost of commuting, car insurance, etc. NY still blows SF out of the water.

I lived in the city for 2 years- even though I paid alot in rent- I have no car, no car insurance and no gas to buy- and that's when gas was $2.00 a gallon

I walked most places and I made alot less money back then - and I was doing just fine

I feel like it was cheaper to live in the city then on LI

I think NYC is more $ than SF because at least in SF, for 1.5M you can get a decent sized place, as opposed to a closet in NYC.

I see we made the top ten two and I am not surprized since our housing is out of control-way worse than NY.

But I think all our other costs of living are way less- especially service costs since we have a great deal of new immigrants willing to do it at lower costs.
