Who is hosting Mother's day...
and what are you making?!
I need ideas, we want to have a big BBQ, but I am tired of the same old london broil, shrimp, lamb chops, etc.

I can't help. we are hosting but we are doing a brunch. I'd prefer dinner as I am better at that and desserts than I am breakfast and lunch food. I feel like I am cheating because I'll be buying cold cuts and bagels and such.
If you want to do a BBQ theme, what about my favorite BBQ'ed chicken wings on the grill? You can make different flavored wings based on peoples preferences. I like hot, my dad like asian marinades, my mom likes sweet wings marinated in jams, etc.
Or what about chicken kabobs. I make skewers of chicken and then skewers of mushrooms, peppers, onions and it grills up so good!
You can also grill salmon but I don't have experience with it to help you out.

Re: Who is hosting Mother's day...
I'm hosting but we're just ordering 6'heros and salads. It's my day too and I don't feel like cooking (as much as DH says he'll do the grilling, we allllllllll know who ends up doing it )

Re: Who is hosting Mother's day...
I am hosting Mother's Day. We also hosted Easter two weeks ago; and like you, I ran into the same problem of what to make again???
So DH and I just decided to have a brunch instead where we can incorporate a lot of "breakfast" foods that everyone seems to enjoy and not eat as often!
My mom and MIL were thrilled with the idea!

I'll be buying bagels and cream cheese as well as cold cuts and cheeses for sandwiches.
I'm hoping I'll have time to be making french toast, sausages, quiche, fruit salad, pasta salad, pumpkin cranberry muffins, chocolate walnut biscotti (made today), going to attempt crumb cake, banana chocolate chip cookies, and tea sandwiches (mozz w. sundried tomatoes and basil) and (brie and cucumbers).
What are you making? please share.

Woah! It sounds like you are having a lot of people! There will only be six of us at my house - I am def thinking quiche, french toast, sausage/bacon, fruit. Not sure what I want to do for the lunch part - maybe cold cuts....but it is only a small group so I am not sure...

Re: Who is hosting Mother's day...
Actually we are only having six as well
I know we are going a bit crazy but I might not get to all of it and we have big eaters yet picky eaters, so everyone wants/needs something different and we want to provide options.
I never made a quiche before, but I am thinking of trying one in a cookbook I have. Do you have a good quiche recipe?

Re: Who is hosting Mother's day...
For lunch, I don't see why cold cuts can't be good for a small group. or you can get an already made hero.
Other lunch ideas:
pasta dish- hot or cold soup or chili egg salad tuna fish chicken salad crab salad meat and cheese in puff pastry

My quiche recipe is very plain (but I always get great feedback), I switch out veggies/ham/bacon - here is the core of the recipe: 4 eggs 1 cup half & half 1/2 c mayo 2 Tb flour 1/3 minced onions 8 oz. shredded sharp cheddar cheese salt & garlic powder
40 -45 min @350
