Wow I need to clean out my cabinets...
So at 11:00 (pm) I realized "oh my goodness, I need to bring something to my mother in law's house tomorrow!" I knew that I had a few boxes of cake mix and some frosting kicking around, and I have a pan that makes a bunch of 'cupcakes' that go together to make a bunny. Well I go to grab everything and it turns out the use by date on everything is ... September 2008!!!
Those went right into the trash. I know I had gotten it on a sale, but apparently the last few years flew by  Looks like I'll be cleaning out my baking cabinet this week.
Fortunately, I had (unexpired) brownie mix in the house. But the last few times I've brought dessert it has been brownies  . Lets see what time I get up in the morning...I may just be running out to the supermarket first thing in the morning to make cupcakes before church 
I'm just thankful that I have a habit of checking the expiration date on everything before I use it!!
ETA: I just saw a post on some easter cakes...now I really want to go out and pick up cake mix so I can make something cute!

I usually try to clean out the cabinets for stamp out hunger (post office food donation) and I hate when I find all the expired food.
A student once told me that their family took donations one thanksgiving and they didn't realize it but the pasta was expired and when they put it in the pot to boil, there were bugs in there

The same thing happened to me a couple of months ago when I cleaned out my pantry. I had expired soup. I can't imagine when I bought soup that expired in 2008.  I can't imagine how long I had them - 5/6 years at a minimum.

FYI the post office food drive is 5/14 this year
I just tossed an expired cake mix, too. It was all the way in the back, I hate my pantry stuff gets lost back there
