oil vs. oil
what's the difference in olive oil vs vegetable oil vs canola oil?
Are some oils better for marinades, some better for keeping food from sticking etc?
curious as to when you should use which ones..
thanks!

Re: oil vs. oil
I use canola oil for frying and olive oil when I am cooking.
For marinades and from keeping food from sticking, I use olive oil.

Re: oil vs. oil
I fry with olive oil and NEVER bake with it...only veggie oil for that. Olive oil has too much flavor and will make your cakes taste a bit funny

I've used Olive Oil in a cake in a pinch. I couldn't taste a difference and neither could anyone else!

Re: oil vs. oil
I use olive oil for everything except for the deep fryer. Olive oil is the healthiest and best for your cholesterol and better for you in general.
I fry and bake with Extra Light olive oil.
I used Extra Virgin for dressings, marinades, roasted veggies, etc.

Re: oil vs. oil
mostly the fats in extra virgin olive oil are more nutritious, but it does have a stronger flavor that you have to want to taste, which is why you don't use it for baking. evoo also burns at a lower temp than canola oil, so it's not good if you're frying on a super high heat.

Re: oil vs. oil
Ideally, olive oil should not be heated at very high temperatures. It is better for marinades. Canola oil is a higher temperature oil, best for frying.

Re: oil vs. oil
I use vegetable oil only for baking sweets. If i need to deep fry, I use canola oil (if I'm out, I'll use veg oil, but I don't prefer it). For everything else (marinades, dressing, veggies, baked veggies and meats, light pan fry) I use EVOO. I go through a LOT of EVOO!
