If you have nothing nice to say, dont say anything at all!
So prior to finding out the sex of the baby I told DH if it was a boy I wanted to give him my late grandfathers and my fathers middle name as his middle name which is Wendall.
Now mind you I dont love this name but it means so much to me and its just a middle name so no big deal.
Well Its a BOY! and tonight at dinner my aunt made fun of the name not once but TWICE! She actually said how cruel it was to give him Wendall as his middle name.  and laughed at it and said all his friends are going to make fun of him. She made it known she didn't like the first name much either.
It was so hurtful to hear the way she was carrying on about it. How mean can you be?? I realize not everyone is going to love the name but to ridicule me about it is cruel!
If you have nothing nice to say, how about keep your flippin mouth shut!!!!!!

you should have said something to put her in her place. I totally would have said something like "that name was chosen to honor a deceased relative and it means alot to me...i didn't choose it to be popular and trendy. heck I'm not crazy about the name (insert said aunt's name) but if YOU passed away I might consider it!"

That's pretty cruel of her! Especially since the name is so meaningful to you. Honestly in situations like that I find it's most helpful to burst into tears. That'll teach someone for messing with the preggo!

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that - sometimes I wonder what people are thinking when they act like that. That is the one reason DH and I also decided not to reveal our DD's name until she is born - I don't want to hear anyone's opinion at all. The decision in a name is all yours and no one elses.

I would just tell her exactly what youre saying here. That what she said & did was cruel & it hurts your feelings. This is your child & your decision & that she has no right to make such cruel comments. Period.
BTW I think Wendall is a fine middle name. There is nothign wrong with it & a name you dont hear very much anymore. I like it.

Awww! I'm sorry you had to sit through that! Some people just don't filter things before they say it. Don't pay attention to what she's saying. Like you said, it's a middle name and besides, the name has such a great meaning behind it.
