DIY Headboards
I would really like to try this- again, I'm doing this for my imaginary house I'm going to buy with my imaginary money.
I was just curious if any of you have done this and if you have any construction tips??

Re: DIY Headboards
I did it and it was really easy. Home depot cut the board for me. I got 4 inch foam and cut it with an electric carving knife. I spray glued the foam to the board. I then got a quilt I liked in a pattern I liked and staple gunned it to the board. I get a lot of complements on it.

Re: DIY Headboards
This is one of my low priority projects but I imagine something that integrates floor to ceiling curtains. No tracks or anything but the curtains should be removeable so they're easy to wash.
Maybe the curtains would have some kind of ties so they can be opened up to reveal some other fabric material on the wall or maybe some artwork.
This probably doesn't qualify officially as a headboard but the effect might be similar.

Re: DIY Headboards
I saw some tips on the HGTV site Here but was just curious what opinions were from anyone who's BTDT.
I keep watching these shows and go YES!! I totally am gonna do that. It looks so easy but I'm worried I'm gonna go to the hardware store and be like- there's different sized nails??? And realize I'm already in over my head and should just go back to ikea

ANYONE can do the above. I would go that route if you are a novice. You could even tuft it-by drilling holes in the board and sewing buttons down with thick thread or even dental floss..You could also go to a salvage yard or look on CL for old louvered doors and put that up sideways as a headboard

Re: DIY Headboards
I have a wood and metal headboard that I'm dying to do over. I thought maybe I could wrap the metal part with foam (fill ?) and then put fabric over that. Not sure if it would work though.

Re: DIY Headboards

DH did ours. Its a wood frame and then the panels are foam with batting and fabric. He said if your doing fabric and foam, to make sure your foam is cut perfectly square.

Re: DIY Headboards
i've made a few headboards in the past few years. it is super simple to do.
i bought the foam at the Fabric Mill and had them cut it for me that way I knew it was perfectly square. use spray adhesive to attach the foam to the plywood. you should use batting (i bought quilt batting at JoAnn fabrics) over the foam (wrap over sides and staple with gun) then pick your fabric, wrap it over and staple with gun i tufted using thick thread with buttons on front for decoration. we drilled the holes in the plywood first.
First pic is headboard I made for a friend Second is a headboard I re-covered for my mom's guest room Third pic is our headboard now, still haven't gotten around to tufting but hopefully soon!!! ETA: pics in album
its a fun easy project to do and the best part is that you can always change the fabric if your style changes.
