Hiring Contractors Q
Do you check out the contractors you hire to do work at your home for a big job? or Do you go with recommendations, your instinct and the quote? If you do research, can you share what websites or offices you use/call? We have to decide on whom to use for a relatively $$$ job and its scary to make the leap! Thanks

Re: Hiring Contractors Q
I used the recommendations of family and friends when hiring contractors.

Re: Hiring Contractors Q
I go by recommendations, gut feeling, and the Nassau and Suffolk County Consumer Affairs website.
I check their licenses to make sure they're current and have no complaints.

Re: Hiring Contractors Q
I go usually by references of family and friends.
We just had major renovations done and we also went and saw some work that they did.

Jenn627, on the Nassau CA site, there is a list of contractors to avoid. Is there more information than that somewhere on the website? TIA

Re: Hiring Contractors Q
This is the link to search for a vendor.
The contractor we used is Forman Construction, so I just searched on the name and saw he had no complaints... Link to Forman
Here's Suffolk's look-up.
I also use the BBB but I mostly go with my gut.

We did the same thing. Our contractor came from a recommendation, but as soon as we met him we had a good feeling. We couldn;t be happier with him.
