Question for a friend
My good friend just had her 20 week sono and it looks like her baby has 3 cysts in his left kidney. She was told that they could clear themselves up and if not, he would need surgery to remove them. Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this.
TIA

Re: Question for a friend
hmmm not quite the same... but my friend was born with 3 kidneys. All was fine with her.. BUT then her niece was born with 3 as well... and they had to remove one of them for some reason. They waited until she was 6 months to do the kidney surgery on her. She's totally fine now.

Re: Question for a friend
No experience sorry, but I wanted to send your friend some
It must be very scary knowing your LO will need any kind of surgery.

Re: Question for a friend
Not exactly the same thing, but at my 20 week, the kidneys were measuring slightly larger than than they should, so I had to follow up with a specialist for better ultrasounds to monitor their size. I was told they were probably retaining liquid and that it could clear up on its own or be monitored after birth. Altogether I had 3 extra ultrasounds, but at the last one, the kidneys were within normal range so I do not have to go back, just have to mention it to the pediatrician when she's born.
Hopefully your friend's LOs kidney will clear up on its own in utero! All I kept thinking was that me or my siblings could have had the same kidney issues but my mother never would have known b/c they didn't do these intense sonos back then and we are all fine!
HTH!
