How Long???

Just curious how long has everyone been trying?? We have been trying for number 2 for 19 months.

Is anyone else becoming more and more obsesed with this and unable to let it go?? It seems the longer it takes, the crazier I get with it. Anyone have any good ideas or ways they are able to just let it go without thinking about it all the time??

I just feel like this obsessing is just not beneficial to me or anyone around me.

2 years.

The height of my obsession was probably between 6 mos and 18 mos.

Sadly, being infertile is just my "new normal" now, I guess. Chat Icon It's hard for me to even imagine being pregnant/having another child and not living the infertile life.

Hang in there. Chat Icon

I can completely identify with this. Between infertility and our loss, we've been dealing with devastation for so long. In fact, being pregnant now and having something to look forward to Chat Icon is like a lifestyle adjustment!

2 years for us too. it is what it is at this point. i was really driving myself nuts about it last year, but then when my ectopic happened and my right tube was removed, it switched my perspective. there's only so much i can control and sadly so much of this process is out of my control.

For us it's 18 months and we're trying for #1 but I feel the same exact way. I just don't know any other norm.

Re: How Long???

since august of 2009--3 months of really trying, early miscarriage, 6 months of casual trying, chemical pregnancy, 6 more months of really trying, and then 5 failed months under the treatment of an RE with a 3rd chemical pregnancy thrown into the mix.

i'm now in the process of my first IVF. i'm numb. i'm trying to be optimistic, but that's scary because it has always set me up for devastating disappointment. now i'm trying to "just relax" (i.e. acupuncture, yoga, massage) and not think about it.

time will tell, but i have started to think about what i would do if i ran out of IVF coverage with no baby to show for it...

Re: How Long???

I have been with my husband since I was 16 years old. I am now 30. For most of those year I was never careful because I just wasn't getting pregnant. ( I know, irresponsible..lol). But for all of those year....nothing!! Now after my first IVF, I am finally pregnant. It took a looooonnnng time for me! But I just needed a little boost. Good luck!

Re: How Long???

it took us just under 3 years of actively TTC for our first. it was a long and very bumpy road. and IF was on my mind ALL THE TIME. i wish i had some advice on how to not think about it, but i think that's so difficult to do when you want something so badly and no matter what you do, it's not happening. especially when it feels like all your friends are getting pregnant on their first month trying.

what helped me get through was hearing all of those stories on here and that family/friends would share with me on those who were in my shoes and one day got their miracle. i also opened up my mind to the idea that i will be a mom one day, it just might not be the way i had always pictured it (adoption). and lastly, i let go of constantly comparing myself to others. we are all on different journies here. i have friends who easily got pregnant but have other struggles in their lives that i am sure are very difficult for them to deal with.

good luck!Chat Icon

Re: How Long???

On month 8 of TTC #2....only cycle 6 though. I have very long cycles, so we have switched to injectibles and for the last 3 months have had normal cycles. So frustrating. I guess I sort of feel the same & that's it's just a way of life, but I am getting really tired of hearing that everyone else is pregnant and I am still here trying/waiting!

This is a long battle, but I am so glad I have people to share the struggle withChat Icon

We are on month 12 of TTC #2. Getting pregnant with DS was very easy and I really didn't understand the struggle of TTC till this time around. It is extremely consuming and I find it hard to not obsess about it too Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How Long???

I have been trying since Aug 08. So almost 3 years. I have to be honesty. I don't go a day without thinking about it. I am really thinking about seeing a therpist because i feel so defeated and depressed. IF has become such a major part of my life. I sleep, eat and breath it. Chat Icon

Re: How Long???

We have been trying for a little over 2 years for #1, and have had 3 early losses (1 early m/c, 2 chemicals).

My obsessiveness has definitely increased since we started seeing Dr. B. IF has become part of my daily life. There is nothing that I want more than to be a mommy, and it is on my mind whenever I have any down time. I try to keep busy with other things as much as possible. Idle time is bad!

Re: How Long???

Tried naturally with tracking ovulation since May 2009. Diagnosed with high FSH in January 2010. Tried with fertility treatment since March 2010. After 2 cycles, had success with first pregnancy in Sept 2010. I am due in June 2011.
It was definitely an emotional roller coaster! I had 2 breakdowns during the trying period.

Re: How Long???

Thanks for all your responses. I am just so exhausted thinking about this all the time. I am contemplating seeing a therapist as well. I am just trying to find some other things to focus on. All I am doing is growing bigger and bigger and becoming an alcoholic. I seem to use food and alcohol as my outlet. I think I need to start thinking about the things I have as opposed to the things I don't have. ugh....
