did your insurance cover it? and if so, what insurance do you have?
How much does IVF typically cost if you paid OOP? and how do the payments typically work?

Re: those who did IVF
mine was covered completely. i have UHC. from what i remember i have a $30k lifetime max on infertility. however all of my previous treatment prior to IVF was put in under the code for PCOS so none of it came out of my $30k max .
through insurance mine was billed to about $6k not including meds. i have heard OOP it costs about $10-$15k. how the payments work and the final cost likely depend on your doctor.

Re: those who did IVF
my insurance did not cover any IVF, so i paid OOP. i applied for the NYS grant and got accepted so my final cost was around $8K for one fresh cycle, including cryopreservation of any leftover embryos and storage for a year. normally, the OOP cost is about $14K at my dr office, plus meds and cryopreservation fees. i don't know about financing options but i was told that it had to be paid in full before you could start your IVF cycle.

Re: those who did IVF
I have Empire NYS and it covers IVF with a $50K lifetime max. I did 5 IVFs but only three of them went to retrieval and two of those only to transfer. I believe I have approx. $25 of it left.
From what I can make out on my EOBs each full cycle cost around $11K. That ddoes not include meds because they come out of my prescription plan.

Re: those who did IVF
Our insurance did not cover IVF. We paid around $10k or $11k I believe, not including meds which can run anywhere from $2-4k+.
We did not use any type of payment plan, but there definitely are options for that.
ARC Fertility is one pamphlet we were given at the time that had payment plans.

Re: those who did IVF
I have GHI. My insurance covered 75% of 3 IVF cycles.
For my cycle, I ended up paying $1250, not including drugs. The contracted rate they have with the insurance companies is less than what you would pay out of pocket.
Good luck!! Margaret at Dr.B's is an expert on the insurance stuff so you can always ask her about your specific insurance!

Re: those who did IVF
I have Empire NYSHIP through DH with a lifetime max of $50K. Additionally, because I go to a center of excellence, there is no coopay for any visits (and trust me they add up ...only for outside labwork and meds

I have the same insurance. And if you do IUI they don't fall under the 50k Max. You can do unlimited IUIs. It is really good insurance for infertility.
Edited to add: Presciptions are also seperate in not included in the max.

I'm not certain, though I think I remember someone saying he doesn't but will work with another doctor who does participate. but again .. not totally sure on that.

Re: those who did IVF
I have GHI and they cover 75% of an IVF cycle and you get 3 lifetime cycles. My OOP was $1900 plus meds.
In addition, I had to pay $30 everytime I went in for monitoring. When you're doing IVF you're monitored so much more than an IUI. Those co-pays really start to add up!

Re: those who did IVF
My insurance didn't cover it and i didn't qualify for the grant. My doctor participates with a shared risk plan where you pay upfront for 3 cycles and if you wind up not getting pregnant you get 80% of the money back. It cost about $20,000 for the IVF + ICSI. It worked out to be more expensive than one cycle, but cheaper than 2. We went this route because we didn't want to stress over it not working the first time. We were much more relaxed about it knowing we had more tries already paid for. In the end it worked the first time, so we over paid, but it was obviously worth every penny.

Re: those who did IVF
Self-pay. My IVF cycle cost 12k. When we applied for the NYS grant there was no money left. We actually took money out of an IRA I had. I also spent 16K on Dr Toth
