How did you get to that point? Did it come naturally for you or was it something you worked at that came over time? If it's the latter, what did you do that helped you to get to feeling like that?

Also, just out of curiosity, if you do love your SK as if they were your own, do you actually have your own children that you can compare that to and can honestly say the love for both is absolutely equivalent?

I'll be honest -- I love my SS but I do not love him as my own...

I met my DH when SS was 9, we started dating when he was 10. He's now 13. DH and I have an 18 month old DD.

I don't know, like I said - I do love my SS. But it's not that same unconditional love that you have for your own child. Maybe it's because hes only with us about 3 weekends per month? He's also at a tough age. Argues a lot, gives us a little bit of a hard time (although he's honestly a great kid, just comes with the territory).

I hope one day I'll feel that unconditional love for him like I do for my DD.

im definitely interested to hear other's feelings ...

I went in thinking I don't have to like them. But I ended up loving them. They are genuinely good kids. Of course they can be rotten like any other 13 year old... it's only normal!

I don;t have a bio but I would imagine a love for a bio is stronger.

But I never felt like this before so I have nothing to compare it to.

You don't have to love him equally.

I have one SD and no bio children yet (dealing with IF issues) I do care for her and want only the best things for her in life and will always be here for her if she ever needs me, but I don't think I could ever love her as I would one of my own...it is just not the same thing, plus, we never see her and I was not part of her upbringing, so I think that has a lot to do with it.
