Drinks on a cruise
I am going on a RC cruise this summer out of NY and wanted to see if anyone was successful sneaking booze onto the ship. The drinks are so expensive. Just trying to cut the costs a bit.

Re: Drinks on a cruise
I have only been on Princess Cruises and i know they allow a certain amount per person to be brought on.
Check on CruiseCritic.com under your cruise line and you can get more info from people who cruise that line.

Re: Drinks on a cruise
Not sure about the other ships but we went on Oasis and there was a TON of alcohol in the "naughty" room (they got me with an iron-lol!! so we were down there). I don't think you can get away with it on that particular ship.

Re: Drinks on a cruise
They check your luggage just like the airport does. It will just be a waste of time bc they confiscate it.
(deleted about wine)
They don't let you have the liquor on the ship that you buy on there either-I'm sure partly bc they want you to buy drinks, but also for safety reasons. They don't want someone getting hammered and going overboard.

You can bring 1 bottle of wine in each piece of luggage, but no hard liquor.

I don't even think RCCL will allow bringing wine on board.

Re: Drinks on a cruise
They will also shake any open bottles you bring on to test for alcohol. For example if you were going to try to bring on 1 bottle of 'water' like you are already drinking it but it's really vodka.
One time we got it on, but we weren't planning on it. We bought it in a port, put it thru the scanner and they said 'is it alcohol' and we said yes, so they said we needed to check it in with the bar staff, who were located around the corner. So instead of going around the corner and checking it in with the bar staff. we just went around the corner and walked up the stairs. They really had a bad setup there.
Royal and Celebrity have it in the agreement that if you try to smuggle on they can kick you off the ship. So it's not worth the risk for us.

Re: Drinks on a cruise
I was able to bring drinks and booze onboard when on a Mediterranean cruise on Princess Cruises. Nobody stopped us. I guess some lines are more strict than others?

Re: Drinks on a cruise
Some cruise lines may be stricter than others, but we had no problem bringing booze on Carnival. They allow you to bring wine (which we did and drank at dinner without the corkage fee! they dont always charge it) We also bought a few small things of liquor in Miami before boarding, plus some mixers, and it made it to our room without issue. We've also bought vodka at port and brought it back on the ship in a water bottle on a previous cruise
