Cord Blood Banking
I know there are a few threads about this, but I haven't seen one in a while. So....
Who is thinking about doing this, or did this? What company are you interested in using.
DH and I really want to do this and we *think* we are going to go with Viacord. But, if anyone has other suggestions, please let me know.

Re: Cord Blood Banking
We used Viacord. The process was very easy. I will do it again with our next child.

If you go to Cord Blood Registry they show you ow it is done and there are some prices there.
Here is the site for Viacord .
HTH
ETS: the prices vary depending on which company you use, but only slightly.

Re: Cord Blood Banking
Using Viacord. Prices for Viacord and CBR were pretty much the same. Both are $125 a year to store it. The initial fee for both was around $2000, I don't remember the exact amount for each.

Re: Cord Blood Banking
I thought I'd share that someone I met recently at a BBQ and whom had a baby of four months did the cord blook banking and said to definitely negotiate with these companies. Let them know about the competition and how the other companies can have better rates. They will negotiate with you and you can get a better price. Thought I'd pass along the information.

Re: Cord Blood Banking
Right now cancer, anemia, diabetes and many others. If you go to the websites that I posted above, it is helpful. I know the Viacord website tells you exactly what the cord blood treats and what it could potentially treat in the near future.

That's true - I negotiated with CBR - I just said that a friend called and she was given the old rate. And they gave it to me. It was a few hundred less for the inital storage fee and $25 less a year.
Viacord and CBR are the big companies...and it is safest to use them. If you use a lesser know company and they go under, Viacord or CBR will take over, but the samples may be compromised.
another thing I heard is that both of these companies are obligated to hold the cordblood whether you pay or not the yearly fee...so if there is a chance that you need it - it will be there and you would just pay the back fees...although at $125/year - It's not too much.

You're welcome.
I am going to do the 21 year plan from Cryo-Cell. They were around longer than CBR and Viacord. I would rather be locked in for $125 a year than to find out down the line that the prices went up or whatever the case.
Hope this information helps you!

Re: Cord Blood Banking
I used Viacord for both boys. Annual storage fees are $95 for #1 (born in '03) and $125 for #2 (born in '05). Those fees are locked in for 18 and 21 years, respectively. My OB waived her fee both times.
DEFINITELY negotiate!!! I didn't know I could w/ #1, but I got a great price for #2. Couldn't negotiate that annual storage fee though.
