Novice Gardener here- questions

I am definitely a novice gardener. We are trying to spruce up our yard slowly. Last year, we spent time cleaning up the yard and we planted two trees and a few shrubs. In the fall we planted tulip and daffodil bulbs-love seeing them come up now!

Are there any bulbs we can plant now that will bloom in the summer? Also, I will be planting some annuals. I have some shade in my backyard and I want to plant some flowers. Any ideas? I think we did impatiens last year and petunias in the front where we get a lot of sun. I was hoping to do something different this year. I want something that fills in nice like the petunias and has a lot of color.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
