Poll: Area Rugs
How much did you spend on your living room area rug? The better quality ones are $$$ and I am just wondering if it's worth it.

Re: Poll: Area Rugs
I got two very nice, large (e.g., 8 by 10) area rugs for my formal living and dining rooms for like half price. I got the living room one at the Bloomingdale's furniture store at Roosevelt Field. I think it was originally like $2500 and I got it for $900 or something like that. Same thing with the dining room -- I went to the Macy's Furniture Outlet (in Carle Place, I think) and they had a HUGE selection. I think I got that rug for around $1000, but that was maybe a half or even a third of the original price.
Still expensive, but I love the look of the rugs and they are good quality. I moved in January, so I think there were post-holiday sales, President's weekend, etc.
But I would check out the Macy's outlet (and maybe other outlets) and see how much the rugs are marked down and then watch for a big sale.

Pottery barn outlet 60 bucks - 5 x 8
If you are looking for a large size try empire - my friend did that - they make custom sizes and shapes. Hers is custom cut around her fireplace and everything.

Re: Poll: Area Rugs
I bought a cheapy at Home Goods, and it sheds like a dog, so I am wondering if the more expensive ones shed less?
I don't know much about area rugs I read up on the different weaving and stuff, and it seems you will have to pay over $1000 for a hand knotted which sheds less than tufted, I can't believe these rugs go for so much lol
