Milk

DH is a BIG milk drinker... and has been giving Ryan some of his milk- everytime he has a glass...

Ryan goes crazy over it.... love it more than any other drink we give him.....and always wants more...

Is it ok that we give this to him??? We havent made the switch yet..... the DR. says not until 11 months....(so next month)

Im assuming its fine considering many friends of mine, Dr.s started their child on all milk @ 10 months... Chat Icon

Input???

eta- so far no tummy issues...

Re: Milk

I could be wrong, but my understanding was that you were supposed to wait until 12 months, in order to reduce the risk of allergy.

Re: Milk

I started Andrew on milk at 11 months and at the same time, weaned him off bm. He was fine with it. I did not do half and half or anything, just whole milk and he took right too it.

Re: Milk

I wouldn't totally switch him over because I think they still want him to have the nutrients in his formula but if he shows no signs of allergy I think its totally fine to let him have some here and there so long as its not taking the place of his formula.

My doctor told me I could put Miranda's cereal in milk to make it soft for her to eat and I said do you mean formula and he said No regular milk is fine.

I'll bet it's fine then. Just make sure he's still taking his formula bottles is all for the vitamins and other nutrients.
I can't believe its almost time for our babies to be on milk .Chat Icon Although I am looking forward to not having to buy and mix formula!

Re: Milk

I don't see any harm in a sip or 2 here or there-I mean, it's the same as him having his foods made in milk or ice cream, yogurt etc...I think dr's just don't want yout o totally take him off formula just yet and put him on all whole milk because they still need the added iron and nutrition.

Re: Milk

It's fine as long as he isn't reacting to it. I forget, I think it's as early as 8 months (basically the time they start cheese/yogurt) that infants can be introduced to milk. It's just that replacing the formula isn't a great idea because milk can deplete iron and missing other nutrients. Since it's one of those allergy/sensitive things I think most people just hold of completely on it.

We've had our share of milk already from our big sister's cup. Chat Icon
