True love doesn't end with happily ever after...

if you did an extension, and didnt have money saved for it...

how did you get the money? refi? home equity? some type of other loan

We have only been in the house 2 1/2 years, so equity I don't think will be great...and we have 5.375%, so I don't think refi is worth it.

Anything else we can do? THanks

We were fortunate to purchase our home for a lot less than it was worth since it was an estate. Two years later, we put on an extension- one bedroom with a bathroom. We refinanced with a cash out. But this was over a year ago before home prices went downhill. I wish I had other advice but may take a loan or even look into refi and see what the house appraises at? Good luck. Chat Icon

We're planning a renovation and will be doing most of it from savings, but some will be from a HELOC we opened several years ago.

We've read that you can do Construction loans, as well - which will give you (I think) up to 80% of the projected end value of your home when the construction is done --

Money saved and loan against 401K. The 401K loan is a gamble but it's the lowest interest. So we are banking that DH keeps his job for the next 5 years.
