how did you get the money? refi? home equity? some type of other loan

We have only been in the house 2 1/2 years, so equity I don't think will be great...and we have 5.375%, so I don't think refi is worth it.

Anything else we can do? THanks

We were fortunate to purchase our home for a lot less than it was worth since it was an estate. Two years later, we put on an extension- one bedroom with a bathroom. We refinanced with a cash out. But this was over a year ago before home prices went downhill. I wish I had other advice but may take a loan or even look into refi and see what the house appraises at? Good luck.

We're planning a renovation and will be doing most of it from savings, but some will be from a HELOC we opened several years ago.

We've read that you can do Construction loans, as well - which will give you (I think) up to 80% of the projected end value of your home when the construction is done --

Money saved and loan against 401K. The 401K loan is a gamble but it's the lowest interest. So we are banking that DH keeps his job for the next 5 years.
