What age did you 1st bring baby in a pool? Did you use regular diapers or swim ones?

I brought Damien in the pool when he was 9months (his first summer) I always use swim diapers. I would have taken him in when he was younger than that.

Re: Pools and babies

I havent' brought my baby to a public pool yet (she is 5 mos) but we did buy a little baby one that only she fits in so she can get used to being in one. We also used the little swimmer diapers (the regular ones become very bulky and heavy from the water being absorbed. I do plan on bringing her to a public pool this fall for swimming classes (she'll be 7 mos)

Thanks for the reply Chat Icon We are heading over to my brothers house today and would like to bring DD in the pool with us but weren't sure if she was too young (3 1/2 months). Guess we will stop at BRU to get some swim diapers too Chat Icon

Re: Pools and babies

Jacob started swim lessons at 6 months and loved it. Definately buy the swim diapers and make sure they are wearing lots of suntan lotion!!!

We also just bought a cute baby float to use when I am at friends pools and such..

I was told NOT to use suntan lotion on DD yet (3 1/2 months) was I misinformed? I use the baby one on myself so I have plenty!

No, you were not misinformed. I have heard that you aren't supposed to use sunscreen before 6 months old.

I wanted to take DD into a pool too, but when I just dipped her feet in she screamed like crazy. I think the water was too cold for her because the pool was not heated. Also, all of the swim diapers are all too big (she is only 2 1/2 months old).

If your DD likes it, I say go ahead and let her enjoy! Chat Icon

Isabella had her first dip in the pool yesterday(she's 3 and a half months). I only kept her in for 5 minutes, she liked it, she sreamed her little head off the minute we took her out.. BRU sells little diapers, but they look and feel like a bathing suit bottom.

Re: Pools and babies

Emily is 9 months old and she is in the pool a lot. We use the swim diapers and she stays in for about 15-20 minutes before we take her out because we don't want her to get too cold. The pool is not heated but is an above ground so the water is generally around 80degrees.

My sister's daughter is 4 months old and she takes her in also, but since she can't use sunscreen she got the swim suits from onestepahead.com that have spf 50 in them and just makes sure that she limits exposure to about 10-15 minutes at a time.

Re: Pools and babies

Emma was 6 months and Jeremy was 2. A little sun screen on their face will do more good than harm if you are going to put them in a pool because of the water reflection. Don't overdo it by any means. Just get a float with a sun shade and keep a close eye on the sun exposure and have a great time!

Miranda was 7 months when we went to Disney and that was her first pool experience. Now we go swimming at least once or twice a week and she loves it.
I use swim diapers under her bathing suit.

I would say as long as you're paying attention when she gets too cold, they're fine.

Re: Pools and babies

6 months he went to swim class, they recommended the cloth swim diaper over the little swimmers disposables. They are supposed to be more sanitary.

Re: Pools and babies

We put her tootsies in the pool just yesterday, she's 2.5 months old. Our PED said sunscreen was okay, just use the baby one. I only put it on her arms/legs, she has a hat on her head and shades her face.

Re: Pools and babies

We have a pool but I am afraid to put him in because of the sun. He is three months old, but our pool is completely in the sun and he is very fair. Plus, we can't use sunscreen until he is six months. He loves the bathe though so I am dying to put him in the pool.
