I am scared
My DH is going out now to pick up my femara script and I am supposed to start them tonight. I am seconding guessing myself. I will probably just take them but I am scared, I feel like I am starting down this road and just questioning myself.
I also feel like I met with Dr. B one time over a week ago for 5 minutes, now he is just having me take these meds without even having the results of my blood work or sonogram.
I feel like I have so many questions too! First off I cannot believe DH is going to have to give me a shot in my stomach!!!
1. So I'll take these femara pills Mon-Fri night 2 pills together at night, will there be any side effects? Will they make me feel bloated or sick?
2. I have an appt. next Monday for another sono, dependant upon what they see I'll do the trigger shot at night and my iui tues and wed. Now why do I do the trigger shot at night, then the iui the next day, won't that be too late? Does the shot make you ovulate immediately?
3. Monday will be CD10 for me, sometimes I don't ovulate until CD10-14, will my eggs be mature enough?
4. Am I supposed to have sex at all from now on? When should DH make sure he starts to save his sperm, would that be Sun until Tues when the first iui is tentively scheduled?
5. I keep hearing you guys talk about injectible iui's, that is different than just the trigger shot?
6. Also how long does an iui take, and how does DH factor into it? I am going to Dr. B so does he only do it at certain times?
I am confused and scared.

Re: I am scared
okay breathe :) take the pills and call dr b tomorrow to ask all your questions. its very overwhelming and unless we ask ..we dont know.
i bring a notebook with questions with me sometimes and it totally helps.
i took femara a few times and i didnt notice any side effects. when your eggs/follies are ready.... and they find out with sonos and blood work...you do a trigger shot to make you ovulate. you ovulate 12-36 hour after the shot..so doing the iui the next day is perfect. it doesnt matter when you normally ovualte..this is a medicated cycle and he is "making" you ovulate on a timed schedule. usually i see the doc every few days so you may feel better asking to see him at the end of the week and moniter the eggies. as far as sex..we would just have it and if we thought we may have an iui lets say monday...we would stop having sex saturday. give the spermies a day or two to um build up lol after an iui or two..the dr actually suggests to have sex to cover the time of ovulations.
i hope this helped a little bit.
totalllly call the dr and tell him you are confused and need to clarify a few things!!!!!!
xoxoxoxo gl!!! xo

Re: I am scared
Did they do bloodwork on CD3? If so and there was an issue, he wouldnt tell you to proceed with the meds. They didnt do a sono on CD3 for me either. I think b/c its not likely that you have leftover follies/cysts b/c you've never been stimulated before.
The trigger shot is noting at all. You dont even feel it. I do mine myself b/c DH hates needles worse than me. I'm a total chicken and they ask me if I'm ok everytime they take blood b/c I'm all tensed up, look away and probably apear as if I'll pass out. If I can do the trigger shot, you will be fine.
I haven't heard of many Femara side effects. I've taken Clomid and had minimal side effects (moodiness). Everyone says that Clomid is far worse than Femara.
The trigger guarantees you O in about 24-36 hrs after the shot. The washed sperm lived about 2-3 days from what they told me so it's there for when the egg pops out.
Your follies will be mature quicker b/c of the meds. I had a 24 and 25 mm follie last month on CD10 and triggered that night. 18mm is considered mature.
My first cycle, they had me BD the weekend before in case the egg popped out early. They weren't sure how I'd respond to the meds so they said to BD just in case.
Injectables are the meds used instead of Femara for people that don't respond to Femara.
You DH will drop off for ex. at 9, then your apt will be at 10. They need his deposit an hr before so they can wash it. He basically has a half hr to get it there.
The IUI itself is really quick. The Dr is in the room for about 2 minutes tops. They put the speculum in and squirt the "stuff" in and done. It took about 30 seconds for the actual procedure. Then they have you lay there for "4 songs" (about 15 mins). I bring my phone in and place it behind me on the table during the procedure so I have a clock and something to do while I wait.
Hope this helps a bit. Good luck!
Dont be nervous. I know it's all new, but you will get used to it soon. Dr. B is great with answering questions. Ive written a bunch down on a post it and brought it in to read off.

Re: I am scared
it's a lot..i know..but keep your eye on the prize..the bigger picture
i will try to answer as best i can
1.i did femera and i was kinda tired on them and achy but nothing major at all
2.no..the shot will make u ovulate in 12 -36 hrs..thats why the iui is done next day and sometimes b2b
3.that i do not know but the doc will tell u
4.they told me just not to have sex day before a iui
5.yes it is diff from the trigger shot
6.actual iui takes literally 5 min..dh factors cause he needs to make a deposit before u can do a iui..after that u will be called in and the it will be done before u can blink..then u lay for 10-15 min and thats it..check your beta's in 2 weeks
hope this helps and don't be scared..we have all been hrough various treatments on this board and can help you in any way hopefully
best of luck

Re: I am scared
Thanks guys that helps a lot. And writing my questions down is a good idea, I didn't think of that.
I am really probably one of the most decisive people ever in the world. I never ever question myself. Just these past few hours though I am flipping back and forth and DH is no help because he wants to try one more time.
While he's been out getting my script I was praying for a sign. Then I started thinking, well if I get a sign will it be to go ahead of not....how will I know which way the sign is for?
Well oddly enough I got my sign, the pharmacist said he cannot give us the meds until he speaks with the doctor!
I heard him though the phone with DH saying something about how it isn't for my demographic, and even though I called insurance and they cover it he still has to talk to the Doctor. He said it shouldn't be a problem, but he has to talk to the Doctor. I don't know why?
So I got my answer, I cannot start it tonight and at least have some thinking time.

Re: I am scared
I haven't read through everyone's responses so this might be repetitive but I figured I'd chime in on this one!!
By the way, as far as not being able to believe your DH has to give you shots in your stomach, I completely remember that feeling!! It's REALLY not a big deal though and you get used to it fast!!!!!
1. You take femara every night for 5 nights, whatever dose Dr.B has you at and I never felt any side effects (From 5mg per night)
2. You use the trigger that night, it causes ovulation within 12-36 hours.
3. Your follicles growth will now be different because you're on meds. You are being monitored. Don't worry, it's out of your hands and the doctor is the one who has the hard part now. All you have to do is take the meds and show up at the appointments!
4. You can absolutely have sex, and it's encouraged even since this process can be so daunting and stressful! May as well enjoy it when you can! Dr.B typically says to have sex the night before a monitoring appt just in case the off chance you ovulate early, however that never happened to me. The night of the trigger- NO SEX. You want him to save up his supply for the IUI the next day.
5. Yes. That refers to injectable stim meds (gonal-f or follistim). You use them nightly.. or every other night.. whatever the case is. It's stronger than the pills.
6. You schedule an IUI the days you need them. You need to have a sample of your DH's sperm there. He can donate there or you can bring it from home. My DH was always there with me for the actual IUI, but it's actually not necessary if he cannot be there.
Good luck! I promise you it's not as confusing as it seems at the beginning! I have learned from this journey to of course stay on top of your protocol and ask questions, but also to know the dr has the hard part!

.
It's probably b/c Femara is a breast cancer drug. But, it is WIDELY used as a fertility drug. That's odd b/c I would think the pharmacist would know this. you can still start tonight and be on schedule. 1 day wont make a difference.

Re: I am scared
I picked up the prescription last night and chose not to think about it at all. Before bed I took the pills. I tried so hard to not be scared but i had a hard time sleeping and was panicing a bit.
Today I am better, now that I know I didn't have a reaction to them or anything. Also with waiting the extra day I can still keep my next Monday appt.
