Changing area essentials?
I am going to have a top drawer of a dresser act as storage for the changing pad we are putting on top...and I will have a basket of some sort for the other levels of the house so that I am not always running to the top floor to do a change..I know diapers, wipes, Aquaphor, small cloths (if it's a boy..for the anti-pee experience-ha)...in the drawer, I will also store burp cloths and bibs, most likely (been working on an organization plan for this drawer for a while-ah, bed rest)...what else do I need??? I know people say cotton balls and Q-tips..for what, though? Thanks, all!

Re: Changing area essentials?
To be honest, i never used cotton balls and q-tips, i used q-tips after DD's bath but that's it. All i ever really needed in my changing area for DD was the butt paste, diaper, wipes and baby powder. That is all i have ever used. Cotton balls and q-tips are in the bathroom.

I agree. Ive never used cotton balls or Qtips..or even powder...I'd say diapers, wipes, bibs, burp cloths, creams, vaseline and thermometer. Thats it.

Thanks...oh, and I forgot to mention that we will likely get one of those kits with the thermometer, etc. so those things will be in the drawer as well...I also hear mixed reviews about powder..I hate over reading!!!

Re: Changing area essentials?
ive never used powder, cotton balls or q-tips. rarely do I ever use creams, but they are helpful to have. I have a basket of diapers, wipes, cream, thermometer on both floors. burp cloths are helpful to have in the beginning too.

Re: Changing area essentials?
DS changing table was where he also got dressed for the day as well as got ready for bed after bath.
So I had easily accessible: wipes, diapers, diaper rash cream, vaseline (for circumcision), body lotion, motrin/tylenol, onesies, bibs, qtips (for ears), cotton balls (for alcohol for belly button stub), thermometer (rectal).

Re: Changing area essentials?
hmm idk what the qtips and cotton balls are for either??
I plan on having a little basket with the norm stuff... the wipes, whatever butt stuff we decide on, some powder for times we might need it...
Are you going to put the changing pad away after each diaper change? You aren't going to leave it out?

Re: Changing area essentials?
I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't know what the cotton and Qtips are for...the changing pad will stay out, but instead of having a shelf or something for all the diapers, etc. I am going to use the drawer right below the changing pad for those things..we'll see how it works out...in addition to the drawer, I will have a portable changing situation since we have a split level home and running up if we are all the way down would be less convenient..just trying to get an idea of what needs to be accessible vs. in a medicine cabinet, etc.

Re: Changing area essentials?
Cotton balls are used in the beginning to wash LO eyes. Not as harsh as rubbing a wash cloth over the eye. Baby powder works miracles for diaper rash...... Just mix Desitin and baby powder into a paste!!!
I use this caddy from JJ Cole. Its great- holds alot of stuff and very sturdy plus pad wipes off easily. Image Attachment(s):
